Pro Hair-Coloring Tips from Rita Hazan
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting so many fun and fascinating people in my career. I’ve heard it all, from breakup stories to juicy gossip, and even embarrassing moments. Through all of these stories and one-on-one conversations, I have become close with my clients. My friends and clients often turn to me for advice, but the question I most frequently get asked as a colorist is, “How can I best care for my color?” For my first blog post, I thought it would be fun to start by sharing a few of my favorite tips and tricks for gorgeous, healthy hair all year long with you!
- Start with the basics. It’s important to invest in great shampoo and conditioner if you want to prolong the life of your color. Think of it like putting on an amazing moisturizer that makes skin feel smooth and healthy before you apply your makeup. Always remember to check the labels before you make your purchase; you want to make sure the shampoo and conditioner you select are formulated for color-treated hair.
- Give Your Hair a Little TLC. In addition to your daily hair-care maintenance, it’s vital to apply a deep conditioning treatment once or twice a week. Make sure you select a treatment that is highly moisturizing, hydrating, and repairing. Hydrated hair cuts drying time and requires fewer products to get your desired style. For an extra boost of hydration, consider sleeping with the treatment on your hair overnight. You’ll love the results!
- Just For My Gray Gals. To avoid over-processing, try my Root Concealer in between appointments. Women should really only color every four to six weeks. My Root Concealer is the perfect rescue product to conceal your grays in between appointments with your colorist.

I’m so excited that I’ll be able to continue sharing my tips and tricks with you on this blog! I hope you all tune in to my next show on QVC on March 16 at 6am ET and again at Noon to watch the launch of the newest shade in my Root Concealer collection, Dark Blonde! In the meantime, feel free to check out my Facebook and Twitter pages to keep in touch with me!
