Our intern Cristina explains how easy it is to use the Kiss Instawave!

by on ‎12-09-2014 03:33 PM

I am now convinced that anyone like me, who is looking for a quick, easy way to curl their hair, would be thrilled to discover what I learned this past weekend. Until now, I didn’t know a curler existed that does ALL the work for you. Well, I now know it does exist, and it’s called the Kiss Pro Instawave Diamond Ceramic 1” Automatic Curler.

Before I begin, you may be wondering “Who is this girl and how does she know so much about the Kiss Pro Instawave Curler?!” Well, my name is Cristina and I am currently interning at QVC’s Studio Park headquarters in West Chester, Pa. As someone new to working in the Hair Tools category, my team decided to get my outside perspective on the Kiss Pro. Thus, my weekend adventure with the Kiss Pro Instawave Automatic Curler began!

Cristina

I have naturally curly, slightly frizzy, long brown hair. For me, curling can be quite the process, so I was very excited to try this new automatic curler–it does it all for you! Even if you have curlier, straighter, shorter, or wavier hair than I do, I can still say with confidence you will get a great look with the Kiss Pro.

My weekend with the Kiss Pro Automatic Curler consisted of first-time trials that resulted in beautiful curls. Lucky for you readers, I experienced the trials and tribulations everyone goes through after buying a new hair tool so you don’t have to!

My Three Favorite Things about the Kiss Pro

1. It does all the work itself! I may have mentioned this about ten times by now, but this is absolutely my favorite thing about the Kiss Pro. It grasps my hair right out of my hand, rotates automatically to wrap my hair around the barrel, and then beeps to tell me my curl is done.

2. Saving time—one curl at a time. There is no worse experience than wanting your hair to look fantastic but not having the time to do it. With naturally curly hair, this process takes even longer for me. With the Kiss curler, I never spent more time on a curl than I needed to. The fun little timer beeps after eight seconds when your hair is curled and voilà! Perfect curl!

3. No more fearing a hot curler. One would never expect curling your hair to be such a hazard, but we have all been there with one version of a curler or another. While using this new Kiss curler, my hand, forehead, and scalp were always in a controlled position never anywhere near the barrel of the curler. You don’t even need to hold the end of your hair like you would with a curling wand due to the convenient built-in prongs.

Quick Starter Guide: Tricks I Learned as a First-Time User

To get the best results with the Kiss Pro, follow these steps:

1. Separate hair into sections—start with the bottom layer of hair and tie back once you complete each layer.

Separate hair into sections

2. Take a piece of hair to curl and be sure to hold it separate from all other hair. The Kiss will gather and curl any and all hair it comes in contact with, so only allow the black rotating prongs to reach one piece at a time.

3. Position the device in your hand with the barrel parallel to your head, and the silver buttons and black larger prong facing the mirror. To curl hair away from face, use outside button furthest from face. To curl hair towards face, use the button closest to your face.

4. Place a piece of hair behind the large black prong in between the barrel and the prong. Press and hold the button until your curl is fully wrapped around the barrel, release the curl once the timer beeps.

Quick, easy curls

5. Leave curls in tight spirals until entire head is completed. Once spirals have cooled, shake it, comb it, or brush it to get that stunning finished look.

Six Different Looks with Kiss

I like to call this first look my Hollywood Look. For a more polished look, curl all hair on the right side of your face, away from face in the same direction. Curl all left side hair away from face on that side in the same direction. Try combing or even brushing the final cooled spirals with this look to get sophisticated, Hollywood-style hair.

To get a more Naturally Curly Look, alternate the curl direction button every other piece of hair. Naturally curly hair does not curl in one direction, but in varying directions (sometimes uncontrollable directions when I let my own hair run its “coarse”). By replicating this with the Kiss, you get a more natural look.

Control your curliness by taking smaller sections of hair at a time—you will get more curl and wave to your hair. If you curl larger sections at a time, you will have larger, more full curls.

For quick looks—for when you just don't have the time—curl your ponytail! If you have a thin ponytail, you can curl it all at once. For thicker hair like mine, separate into sections then wrap curls together manually.

Just curl the front pieces of hair or bangs (because who really looks at the back anyway?!)

Curl just the ends of your hair. If your hair is naturally curly like mine, you can quickly blow dry your roots/hair and just touch-up the ends with the Kiss.

Tips for Long-lasting Hold and Volume

Growing up with curly hair definitely presents its challenges. Controlling frizz and keeping my hair healthy while using heat intensive tools was always on my mind. Here are a couple tips I use for getting my curls to last (these work great for straight hair also):

  • Brush through hair before you begin using the Kiss Pro.

  • Let hair dry naturally before curling as to not over heat your hair.

  • Use a heat protecting spray to help prevent damage to your hair.

  • After you curl each piece of hair, be sure to leave the curl tightly spiraled until it is completely cooled to allow curl to set.

  • For Curly Hair: blow dry JUST your roots before styling in order to get a smooth look from the roots to the ends.

  • For Straight Hair: hairspray hair before and after curling if your curls tend to fall out easily.
