The iPad Mini & my new personal assistant

Gabby: "Hey mom, wouldn't it be cool if we had a butler?!"

Me:  (laughing) "Yes I guess...why do you say that?"

Gabby: "You know, it'd just be cool to have someone that could help out all the time and be like my assistant and stuff!"

Me: "You do. Her name is Mom!"

I won't lie...Gabby isn't the only person in that conversation that thinks it'd be great to have a personal assistant (which I prefer over "butler!"). We busy gals know we are always spinning LOTS of plates at one time!

What occurred to me is that thanks to a lot of modern conveniences, in a few ways many of us are indeed walking around with personal assistants all the time. We just don't call them that. Case in point: my iPad mini (QVC's TSV today, BTW). In just the three days that I've had one and put it to use, it has done the following for me:

-kept track of and notified me in advance of all my work, personal and mom-related appointments in the calendar app

-snapped 56 high-resolution photos and six HD videos, some of which I then shared directly to Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram;

-kept me up to date on the crazy weather up here in PA;

-helped me look up a tasty chicken soup recipe;

-Netflixed (is that a word?) a cute movie that Gabby and I watched way later at night than we should have :-)

-played Words With Friends while waiting for a meeting to start (hey...I'm building my vocabulary!)

-downloaded Dr. Wayne Dyer's latest book in both iBooks and iTunes (keeps me motivated!)

-mapped out directions to the airport (I'm still learning my way around here)

-oh, and I have even gotten to know the lovely Siri better by asking her a few fun questions (here's a tip: ask her what the meaning of life is..she's deep!)

Remember that's just in three days. Turns out I DO have a personal assistant after all! Or butler, if you ask Gabby. Now if I can just get Siri to answer the door for us...

And follow me on Facebook here! I'm pretty quick to respond to questions/comments now that I have a butler :-)
