Following are some key questions about our Today’s Special Value.

Answers provided by PanImage

Q: Is it Mac compatible?

A: Utilizing a microSD card and reader, you can use any computer to share compatible file formats with the Media Tablet.

Q: Which files formats does it recognize?

A: Your Media Tablet will recognize these file types:

  • Photo: JPG, JPEG, BMP, and PNG

  • Audio: MP3

  • Video: H263, MPEG4, and 3GP. It supports 320x240 resolutions and less than or equal to 512KBPS streaming videos.

It is possible for other file types to be recognized through the loading of applications.

Q: How long will it last on a single charge?

A: In WiFi-off mode, it will last up to 4 - 6 hours of continuous use depending on the backlight setting and storage use.  You can extend use times by going into settings and dimming your LCD backlight.

Q: How many books can you store in it?

A: This is hard to say as the book files vary tremendously based on type and content. If you assumed each book was 350KB, then you’d be able to hold over 3,000 titles if the majority of your internal memory was used for books.

You can also swap-out SD memory cards for limitless storage of all of your media.

Q: Can I use this as an eReader?

A: Yes. You can download a number of eReader apps from the home-screen app store.

Q: Can this be used with Broadband wireless internet?

A: You can access the Internet via WiFi at home or through a hotspot, or by an Ethernet (wired) connection with the included adapter. If you are asking if you can connect via broadband wireless from your mobile/cellular provider through a USB device, this function is not supported.

When connecting to public hotspots, follow the user manual's instructions for making the connection and then open up your web browser. Often these connections require you to select or agree to terms on a webpage before it will allow full access.

Q: Do I have to pay for Internet access on the PanImage Touchscreen? Do I have to be wireless to access?

A: There are no additional charges or fees with the tablet. You can access the Internet via WiFi at home or through a hotspot, or by an Ethernet (wired) connection with the included adapter.

Given the processing power required for processing audio, video, WiFi, and the application all simultaneously, we are reluctant to advocate the use of this application as the performance may not be acceptable

Q: Is this Java Capable?

A: Not as loaded. While AndroidTM applications are written in Java, there's no Java Virtual Machine in the platform and Java byte code is not executed. Java classes get recompiled into Dalvik executable and run on Dalvik virtual machine. Dalvik is a specialized virtual machine designed specifically for AndroidTM and optimized for battery-powered mobile devices with limited memory and CPU. J2ME support can be provided via third-party application such as the J2ME MIDP Runner  (http://www.netmite.com/android/ ).

Q: Will the Android™ operating system be upgraded to the latest version?

A: No. As is often the case, the software was developed to optimize this hardware set and there are currently no plans to redevelop the core software (kernel) to a new operating system (OS).

Q: Will this work with a USB keyboard and/or mouse?

A: Yes. Although compatibility with every device can’t be guaranteed and certain keys may not function properly, the tablet works with an external keyboard and mouse. This connection requires the use of the external transfer box.

Q: Can I do reports and download books to this device?

A: Certainly, once you find and download the appropriate AndroidTM APK file applications. For reports, you’d want to look for applications for taking notes and writing basic documents (utilizing the virtual keyboard). For books, you will have to first look for a book reader application that supports the book file type you are downloading (most popular being EPUB).

Q: What version of Android™ is on this?

A: The tablet utilizes AndroidTM 1.6.

Q: Are there parental controls for this tablet?

A: There is the ability to set a device lock code to prevent someone from using the device without your permission. However, once unlocked, there are no further ways to restrict specific access (to websites, loaded content).

Q: Is this compatible with documents created on Word or Adobe Reader when downloaded from a flash drive?

A: There are two parts to this answer. The first is File Compatibility:

Word: Once you download a third-party APK application (Documents To Go is a popular one among many) you can read (and sometimes edit) DOC files.

Adobe PDF: Once you download a third-party APK application, you can read Adobe PDF files.

The second part of the answer is in regards to Flash Drive Compatibility:

USB Flash Drive Capability: Utilizing the external transfer box, the Tablet will support many USB Flash drives. Compatibility with all external devices cannot be guaranteed.

Q: Can I scan documents into this tablet and then use it as a reader?

Once again, there are two parts here which I need to separate: Scanning and Reading.

Scanning: There isn’t a way to scan directly into the Tablet.

Reading: Once a document has been saved in a compatible file type or in a file type supported by an AndroidTM App (APK file) you’ve installed, you’ll be able to read the file. You can use the microSD memory card, USB Flash Drive, email download, or connection to your PC via USB to transfer the file that you scanned.

A [REVISED]: Although the Sirius XM application does load on this tablet, due to the performance of the streaming audio, we cannot endorse this use at this time.
