NFL Week 5: Celebrating The Past and Future

by on ‎10-15-2012 01:28 PM

Week five of the NFL season brought us history and a glimpse into the future.

Drew Brees passed his way past the late, great Johnny Unitas in the record books by throwing a touchdown pass to Devery Hendersen with two minutes and fifty-eight seconds to go in the first quarter against the San Diego Chargers.  That marked 48 consecutive games in which Mr. Brees has thrown a touchdown pass thereby setting a new record.  He threw two more touchdown passes in that game and led his Saints to their first victory of the season.  I was happy for Drew and the Saints (and relieved since I predicted that would happen in last week’s blog.)

Rookie quarterback Andrew Luck gave us a glimpse into the future of quarterbacking by leading his Colts to a come-from-behind victory over the Green Bay Packers.  He showed poise and confidence beyond his years and thrilled the fans in Indianapolis.  The game ball was then taken to a nearby hospital where the Colts’ head coach, Chuck Pagano, is battling leukemia.  It was one of those magical, unforgettable NFL moments that remind us of why we love the game so much.

After week five there are now only two undefeated teams.  The Atlanta Falcons and the Houston Texans are the only teams to sport perfect records of 5-0.

This week’s action should not disappoint as there are several key games on the horizon.  The Detroit Lions will try to salvage their season with a win over the Eagles.  That will not be an easy task as the Eagles are loaded with talent.  The Cowboys will visit the Ravens in what should be a great test for both squads.

I hope you will join me Tonight, October 15th at 6pm ET for another jam packed edition of the NFL Shop on QVC.  I will be introducing a brand new throw in your team’s colors and you won’t want to miss the premier of a brand new NFL Pro Line Sherpa Fleece Hoodie.  Keep on cheerin’ and I’ll see you then!
