Week 1 of the NFL

Week 1 of the NFL was filled with all the excitement and drama that we, as fans, have come to expect. This early in the season, the defenses are usually way ahead of the offenses. With this year's lockout delaying summer camps, I really expected low-scoring games and less yardage on offense. Yet, the Green Bay Packers exploded with 42 points against the New Orleans Saints, and behind Tom Brady, the New England Patriots' offense rolled up big points and big yardage. Brady threw over 500 yards while Chad Henne (a former Michigan quarterback like Brady) passed over 400 yards for the defeated Dolphins. However, with quarterbacks dropping back to pass so much, we saw an unprecedented number of sacks. The Ravens vs. Pittsburgh matchup was a prime example. The Ravens' defense got to Big Ben seven times!

Big props to the Ravens, Patriots, Lions, Bears, and Bills who all climbed significantly in the NFL power rankings with impressive wins over tough opponents. Week 2 has some interesting matchups that I think will offer high drama. I don't want to miss the Bears at the Saints because they're both solid teams with strong and accurate quarterbacks. The Cowboys visiting the 49ers should bring back the classic rivalry from the early to mid-90s. Jim Harbaugh has the 49ers operating efficiently, and the Cowboys are looking for a win after their disappointing loss to the Jets. The Monday night game features young Sam Bradford and the Rams who are traveling to East Rutherford for a matchup with the New York Giants. Both teams need the win.
