My Survivor Sister

Everyone has a story of how their family or circle of friends have been affected by breast cancer.  Each story is unique, and each story has a heroine at the heart of the matter.  Our heroine in our family is my sister, Chrissy.  She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002.  Her children were in middle school and she was caring for my daughters when I was at work. (My youngest was only a few months old).  To this day, as she is an eleven year survivor, I remember her strength through the early days and beyond.  The day she came over to tell me the news she had her running shoes on because we were planning on walking that day, and we did.  She tackled her surgery and treatment with a vengeance!   She put her trust in her Doctors, especially Dr. Marissa Weiss who we always say, gave my sister her life back.  She lost her hair in chemo and turned to dramatic hats, wigs and bright colors to wear.  She reached out to others who were going through treatment at the same time, bonding with the women in her newly diagnosed support group.

For me, Shoes on Sale went from an important cause - to a life changing event. My sister was treated at one of the beneficiaries of the FFANY fundraising, so it hit very close to home.  I am so proud of my sister, and proud of you, because we have sold over one million pairs of shoes to battle breast cancer since the first QVC broadcast in 1995.  I hope you can check on QVC.com each day for the shoe of the day, and watch on October 22nd from 6-9pm eastern for the live FFANY Shoes on Sale show.  I will be joined by survivor, host, and friend, Nancy Hornback. Remember, shoe companies give shoes to us and we sell them for half the manufacturer’s suggested price, with proceeds going to breast cancer research and education.

Join us, and Chrissy too, pictured here with her husband, Jay, when they celebrated their 30th Anniversary.
