I Give My Gold A Story

I've always loved gold. Some people ask, "are you a gold, or silver person?" but I don't think you have to choose. Gold is special in unique ways. It's got such a history and has been cherished by women for all eternity. It literally stands the test of time! I recently did an interview in honor of Gold Month, and I wanted to share my thoughts on this beautiful medium. Most importantly, I'd love to hear YOUR answers to these questions too! Every woman loves jewelry for different reasons, and I always love hearing how we are all so different, but so similar at the same time.

1. What trends are you loving in fashion right now? How does Gold work with those trends?

I love that this season is all about "ease"..flowing fabrics, soft colors, incorporating athletic elements into elevated looks. What's great is that this gives us even more freedom to wear gold casually. Gone are the days of saving your gold pieces for special occasions! Wear a bold cuff with a sweatshirt, layer long chains over a tank top...anything goes!

2. Reinventing classics. What is your favorite new gold trend or way to wear gold?

Without a doubt, my favorite new trend is the use of "negative space" in jewelry. Years ago an x-ring or cuff would have been impossible to find! But now the use of open space and airy designs are as bold if not bolder than heavy pieces that you can find. And they're still timeless, so making that investment doesn't have to come with hesitation.

3. Do you have a go-to or signature gold look?

I can almost always be found wearing a favorite gold aspen-leaf ring I picked up in my favorite small town of Ouray, Colorado. It reminds me to keep working hard so I can retire there! From there, I'll often add a gold hoop (size depends on my mood that day!) and one or two gold bracelets mixed in with fashion jewelry.

4. Do you remember the first gold piece you purchased, and why you purchased it?

I indulged in a rope chain in my early 20's that has held every pendant I've owned since then at one time or another! Talk about a piece paying for itself.

5. There are so many ways to personalize jewelry, how do you "personalize" your gold jewelry?

Odd as it may sound, I personalize my jewelry without any engraving, initials, or birthstones. I personalize it by giving it a story. Every piece I own reminds me of someone or somewhere, or has a special meaning to it in some way. And I believe that's true for everyone. Jewelry is a more intimate, personal purchase than anything else in fashion. Every piece you own is already personalized because you love it!

6. Are there essential gold pieces every woman should own?

It's hard to generalize for everyone, but if I had to narrow it down I'd say start with gold hoops. Any size that feels flattering to you! I'm always encouraging our viewers to give them a try as there are so many different styles you can keep changing them up and never really have the same look twice. It's the LBD of jewelry!

7. How do you decide when to purchase fashion jewelry and when to purchase a fine jewelry piece?

If you love it and it's in your budget, buy. You'll find there are fashion jewelry pieces you wear for decades if you take good care of it. Same goes for fine. Your intuition knows what you love and that's all that matters!

8. Why do you love gold?

Gold is arguably the most beautiful, respected, and time-honored art medium that exists. But it also looks infinitely more beautiful on the human form. It's wearable art! It's precious to us in so many ways, not just from a fashion standpoint!
