PM Style Blog Week of 4/1: Old friends, why can’t they live closer!?!

by on ‎04-02-2015 10:46 AM

I’m still reflecting on my week off which had me visiting “my besties". I just can’t tell you how treasured and priceless they are to me ... how seeing them refueled me. They see the best in me, are endlessly proud of me, they want me to succeed, they want me to fly, they want me to achieve my dreams and exceed my potential. They celebrate my talent, laugh at my quirks and flaws, and in a world where women all too often look at one another with jealousy or caution or judgment (I’ve done it too, shame on us for letting our insecurities taint our hearts and minds) they genuinely have the deepest and truest heart for me.

Friends who grew up with you through grade school and college days are extra special. They saw you through all the drama that seemed like the world was ending, and that brings you closer. The bad hair, worse outfits, ridiculous boy crushes, horrific breakups, sharing lockers, enduring peer pressure, breaking rules, testing boundaries, enduring parents, springs breaks you had no business traveling to foreign countries for (not like I would know anything about that), getting big jobs, losing others, and the tears. Oh, the tears.

My first stop on day one of my week off was Maryland. Lori S is my bestie from my PSU college days. We were Lion Ambassadors together, roommates, kindred spirits.

Our dear PSU friend Jen, died from kidney Cancer only a few years after getting married, and she is the one who inspired my love of ladybugs. Lori and I share ladybug tattoos in memory of Jen.

Jen, Lori and me

Lori has two boys, a husband also from PSU, who makes me howl with laughter, and a dog who literally looks like a muppet.

We spent our day together shopping for Lori’s master bedroom at Tyson’s Corner (aka the most awesome mall in America), and I scooped up a baby gift for my PMS Producer Erica who is due any day now. Plus, how cool is this mall spotting…conveyor belt sushi!?!

As most great days with besties do, the day ended with wine, deep chat, and some drama - after driving nearly an hour home from the mall, I realized I had left my wallet in a store. Let’s just say the folks at ZGalerie saved my life and are amazing. Crazy indebted, am I. By the way, ZGalerie sells the most hysterical books…

Next stop, a 4 hour drive up to NYC from Maryland to play with two of my besties from HS - Laurie (flew in from Michigan) and Kathy (drove in from Ohio).

Here i m with Laurie in nyc circa 1997

Laurie, Kath and I stayed at probably my fav hotel in the City, Crosby Street…

More deep chats, lots of wine, and gobs of shopping.

There was dinner at Nobu New York (I love sushi)

There was lounging in the hotel chill room that I wish were my family room…

And our final dinner was at Balthazar, amazing. order the squash risotto!

Oh and I forgot to tell you, I brought my girls a little bag of treats from QVC. Kathy is obsessed, owns just about everything I present on TV. And Laurie owns about every pair of Skechers GOWalk. So I knew they would go bananas with a bag full of surprises…

And so it goes, when the end came, my heart felt so heavy it was like lead in my chest. Saying goodbye is the worst. But the thought of saying hello again soon, hopefully very soon, is the best.

I will see you beautiful ladies on PM Style starting at 10pET Mondays!
Until then, mwah!
