Road Trip - QVC Site Visits, Virginia

by on ‎10-02-2014 03:03 PM

Road trip! Recently, program hosts Stacey Stauffer, Alberti Popaj and I visited our QVC Suffolk Distribution Center and Chesapeake Call Center.  Our boss, Kathie (Director of Talent Services) came with us! Our first stop on our QVC Virginia tour? Suffolk!

In total, there are four distribution centers at QVC. They are located in Suffolk, Virginia, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and Florence, South Carolina. Did you know that our Suffolk site shipped over 19 million units last year?! Neither did we!  May sound like a daunting number to you and I but not for the well-oiled machine that is Suffolk!

Suffolk has been a fully-functioning facility for QVC since 1988 and has had a lot of growth over the years. It is now the size of 28 football fields (1 million square feet)! Merchandise is stored in 110,000 pallet locations that look like this:

And some of us went for a ride in the “TSC” to see how high it was. It has an “official-acronym” name, but after seeing how high it goes, we refer to it as “The Screaming Carriage”!!! It goes SO HIGH!

The best part about our visit to Suffolk? The 573 wonderful people who work there. We love our extended team so much and appreciate them immensely for all of their hard work!

Now it was time to head to Chesapeake! QVC has domestic call centers in Chesapeake, Virginia, San Antonio, Texas, and Port St. Lucie, Florida. In Chesapeake alone, our call center friends handle an average of 16,000 calls per day (average of calls per day and time of year).  From January 1, 2014 to August 31st, 2014, the Chesapeake Call Center has taken over 10 million calls! How many folks work there? 800+ (including seasonal employees) OK, and I thought I was busy…

As I have mentioned (a lot) I started out at QVC in one of our call centers. It makes me so very happy to spend time with our award-winning customer service and I’m extrememly proud of my roots. Alberti, Stacey, Kathie, and I had the opportunity to sit with our team mates at a round table where we generated lots of great ideas together. We got to check out the call center, and received a warm welcome right when we walked in the door!

Our Chesapeake Call Center answers questions on live chat and social media as well. From January 1 to August 31 of this year, we’ve assisted customers with 3.3 million questions and comments online. We rock! Here’s a photo of some of our Chesapeake social team:

Unfortunately, it was time for us to head to the airport and head home. We want to thank our friends in Suffolk and Chesapeake. Your hospitality, work ethic, and pioneering spirits are inspiring. Thank you for what you do everysingle day. You have to come visit us now!

More to come! ~ Mary DeAngelis
