Bingo Night with the Host Team and Some Amazing Veterans

by on ‎12-13-2012 03:24 PM

Last night, my daughter and I had the opportunity to join the host team in an event that touched my heart and will continue to do so for all my days.

Each year the hosts pull together to contribute to a local charity during the holiday season. While a few ideas were considered this year, it was when Dave James suggested the VA Hospital in Coatesville that a unanimous YES was sounded by all! Each one of us has a family member or friend who has served, as I think most all of us in America do, so we were eager to return our gratitude in any small way.

And so preparations began. Dave was in close contact with the VA and worked tirelessly to organize a Bingo Night at the hospital grounds.

Last night was Bingo Night!! One of the veterans was dressed as Santa and was the hit of the night. We hosts had a blast setting up refreshments, prize tables, taking photos with veterans, and sharing the spirit of the season.

Rick Domeier and Leah Williams did a superb job MC'ing the event! My Gabby, Jacque Gonzales and I had the pleasure of working the prize tables. As winners approached we spent time chatting with them, hearing their personal stories, and sharing our gratitude for their service.

Next week the hosts are visiting the dorms at the VA hospital, to share smiles, gifts and gratitude. This event served to remind my daughter and I that a veteran's service is never really complete. That they serve, and continue to serve as they carry the memories of their difficult jobs well done.

Please, next time you meet a veteran, or see one in uniform...look them in the eyes and thank them. I know those few words mean more than any gift given. Thank them for giving us freedom. It isn't free.

Blessings to you and yours this holiday season and beyond. Below are a few snapshots I took of the event...more at my facebook page! Enjoy!
