A Journey of Love!

Hello my LCNY fashionistas. I hope you had a fabulous Mother's Day. Whether you were acknowledged or you were celebrating your MOM, I hope it was a day filled with love. Mine was very special. You see my wonderful Mom, Marcia ..is back...I asked her permission to share her journey which has been a difficult one for our family.

It started about four years ago. The slow change began. My very active Mom..(walker, golfer, driver, exceptionally bright woman started to fade). None of us could put our finger on it, but we all noticed a difference. Her gait became an issue...somewhat of a misstep with her footing. Slowly the bike riding, walking around the block, playing golf all seemed to come to an end. When you would talk to her on the phone.....many questions were repeated. . My radar was on high alert along with my Dads. What is going on? We made the circuit of doctors over the next several years.

Orthopedist, neurologist, physical therapist.....you name it we saw them for evaluations. No diagnosis. We vacationed together the summer of 2014. That was the beginning of a huge change. My Mom was slipping through my hands like sand in an hour glass. Due to her irregular walk, she tore a tendon in her foot and was put in a boot. She could not navigate the heel toe movement and started with a walker then a wheel chair. We were all so frustrated .....but not so much Mom....she was just complacent.

So the search began. I told everyone her story who would listen. I would be up at night searching the Internet ...googling symptoms. So many people kept telling me to get her to Jefferson, which is a great hospital in Philadelphia. In October we had our first appointment ....little did I know that my 2015 Mother's Day gift was in the making. My Mom was diagnosed with NPH...non pressure hydrocephalus. Pure and simple water on the brain. No known reason but it can develop in seniors.

She had surgery in December right before Christmas. She put all her trust in my Dad and her children that this was the right thing to do. She has a permanent shunt placed in her brain that drains the excess cerebral fluid. The results were remarkable. She called me up in the middle of the night from the hospital at three in the morning and asked, where have I been....I have been so out of it.

My mom is back..walking, sharp as a tack, playing bridge, traveling with my Dad, joking with her grandchildren and enjoying each day. This Mother's Day was extra special.....because my best friend, confidant, partner in crime, is back. As only a Mom can say..."You know, Linda, I like your hair shorter so I can see your beautiful blue eyes"....thanks Mom I am so glad to hear that from you once again....hence my new hair cut. Best gift ever.....MY MOM.

These pictures were taken on Mother's Day 2015. I was wearing our new maxi dress which will be the Today's Special Value on Friday, May 15th.
