A Much Needed Winter Vacation

by on ‎02-03-2015 06:30 PM

It’s vacation season!!!!! Okay, maybe not for most Americans, but for a California family making a home on the east coast, this is the ideal time for a trip…or two…or three.

Last year, aka what the weather people called the worst winter in 80 years in Philadelphia, we didn’t head to warmer weather once. Bad idea. We all got a little cabin fever, so this year we planned ahead.  We just got back from a fun 6 days in Florida with my fabulous in-laws in sunny Florida.

Even though a few of the days didn’t break 70 degrees, the sun was out and my girls were in the pool and on the beach loving the heat. It’s all relative; while Floridians were in sweaters we were in bathing suits! I guess we are developing that thicker East Coast blood.

It was such a needed break, we haven’t been on vacation since the summer, so we were all itching for a few days away, and we’re so grateful to have a place to go where the family welcomes us with opens arms and spoils us a bit. With an added bonus of getting to see our great grandma

Many of you commented on my Facebook page on my post about having a teary day at the office before I left. You are all so kind. I know we all have those days, especially us women. Sometimes you just need a good cry, and I’m a big believer that it’s healthy. If you read my blog from last spring, you likely figured out we went through pretty painful loss while we were on spring break. I think a lot of those emotions were coming up, as I got ready to get on a plane again. Plus, women who have lost like that know that you never fully get over it, it may get easier but the pain never leaves. So I was having an emotional day, and I thank you all for your outpouring of kindness, love and support. I love that my Facebook page has really become a place where you share with me what our God is telling you. The verses, the reminders, all of it help me tremendously when I am having a rough day and I am so blessed by you.

I’m not going to say that vacation totally helped me feel better. Physically, yes. I was warm and that is worth its weight in sunshine to me. But, when I’m on vacation I tend to have more time to think than I do when I’m working and being a full time mom at home.  So I can get even a bit sadder on vacation. It’s okay, it helps to journal and work though my feelings and pray, pray, pray. So, I did come home feeling better than when I left, even though we were all sad to come home to the cold!

I’m off again, this time to southern California. I haven’t seen my step-dad and brother and that side of the family in over a year and it’s long overdue. My step-dad bought the girls and me tickets home for Christmas so we are going now. Last check So Cal was going to be 80 this weekend. Count me in! The girls will get some more pool and beach time and I can help my mom some, and I’m bringing her back with me for a long visit in Pennsylvania.

By the time we’re back, Spring Break will be right around the corner! This year we are truly planning much better than last.  Attempting to get some place warm three times this winter! We do love living in our town in Pennsylvania and we are here for the long haul, but you never quite take the Southern California out of the girls, and I think we will always long for beach and sun no matter how long we live as East Coasters.

Happy winter, stay safe out there my friends, and follow me on Facebook to see pics like these more often.

Xoxox,

Kerstin
