Dear Fellow Pet Lovers –

For my latest Fur Baby Blog, I decided to feature two of the most adorable cats on the planet, my parents' two Ragdoll cats, Sidney and Duffy!! I adore these two kitties, and every time I visit my parents, I think to myself, I need to write a blog about them, so today, here it is! AND it just so happens to be National Cat Day!!

Sidney, a female (almost two years old) and Duffy, her male counterpart (6 years old) are an inseparable pair. My folks originally had another little girl Ragdoll, named Dolly, who became ill and passed on to the Rainbow Bridge a few years back. They had acquired Duffy as a kitten, when Dolly was still living, and although they were close, and Duffy was very sad when she left, the bond they shared was not quite the same as the bond he now shares with little Sidney.  Duffy, (given an Irish name for his wee bit of red flame-tipped fur) was always a bit shy and retiring, but has totally come out of his shell thanks to Sidney's playful ways. (Sidney, who is an expert at slapping and batting and sliding her toy mice around the shiney hardwood floors of my parents' home, was named after Sidney Crosby, star hockey player for the Pittsburgh Penquins. Yes, my Dad is a Pittsburgh fan!)

Together they are one of the greatest joys of my parents' golden years, and must say, are two of the cutest, most special cats I have ever had the pleasure to become acquainted with.  They spend their days watching birds and squirrels, or my mom in the garden, on their all-season porch or perched on one of their many window seats. They love sitting on the desk while Dad works at his laptop (sometimes sitting ON the keyboard or trying to catch the documents that come out of the fax machine) In the evening they enjoy watching TV with Mom and Dad. (Their favorite show is "Too Cute" on Animal Planet, especially the Ragdoll Kitten episode!) Their built in alarm clocks wake them up early in the morning (AND my folks too) to be fed their special breakfast AND that same clock tells THEM to tell Mom and Dan when it's time to go to bed at night. It's a wonderful kitty life!

BUT, when Auntie Carolyn comes to visit, it's ALL new and interesting! The suitcase and what comes out of it...oh my! The flying birdie toy ....how high! (Somehow it disappears when Auntie C goes home) AND the kitty cat game apps on her iPad!! (Challenging every time for exactly 10 minutes and then ho-hum). Once my Dad walked into his home office where he had left his laptop closed on the floor. BOTH of the cats were sitting there staring down at it, waiting for the "Game for Cats" App to magically start playing! Too Funny!!

Ragdoll cats are one of the most popular breeds of cats for today's modern family lifestyles. They are a larger breed, and are very dog-like in many ways. They come when called, play fetch, love to cuddle and watch TV with you, run to the door when you come in from being gone. They are exceptionally gentle, and are famous for going "limp" when being picked up....hence their name, "Ragdoll". They require regular grooming, and I must say my parents are spectacular Ragdoll parents. Neither of those two cats EVER has a mat, and both have the most gorgeous coats!!  Really, ALL cats are cute.....but Ragdolls are some of the cutest! Especially these two! Can't wait to visit them in NC again soon!
