Planning a Wedding with a Little Southern Charm

by on ‎08-29-2014 12:46 AM

When my producer and friend, Venita, told me we might have the opportunity to partner with Southern Living for Courtney Says I do… I needed to sit down. Where I come from Southern Living Magazine was right next to the bible. I mean seriously, there was a bible on the nightstand table and right next to that, for a little light reading was the book that guided the way to becoming the envy of all friends and family when it came to mastering the techniques of southern charm.

Wherever you are, Southern Living takes you to your happy place. In fact my mother used to get so happy reading her stack of SL magazine over vacation that often my step-dad and I were unwilling participants in a total home overhaul. It was worth it by the way. I look back and realize how one single publication inspired my mother’s creativity and made our homes indoors and out, a home. In fact I can solely attribute my love of gardening to my mother who would attribute her love to Southern Living… So really this partnership is just only two degrees of separation. Smiley Happy  I think you can tell by now, Southern Living has been in my blood for a very long time.

The idea of a wedding was on my brain from a very young age, and If you were to ask me what my wedding would look like when I was four well I probably would have imagined it in a way that I thought was very Southern… Take a look.

As a fully-grown, almost 30 year old bride-to-be I appreciate where I came from, but I’d like to make some updates to the perceived bride you saw above. Smiley Happy

Now I can’t give away everything but I did pick out a few of my favorite things from Southern Living Weddings that I think you can pass on to your bride-to-be’s that are not only smart but cost effective as well. These tips have been a huge part of our wedding…

Floral arrangements can be one of the most shocking numbers you can see when planning a wedding. Here SL has broken down floral ideas based off what’s in season to help you make cost effective, beautiful decisions for the BIG Day.

When serving alcohol at a wedding, it’s tricky to figure out what path you want to go down financially. Signature Cocktails are an affordable way to treat your guests that can speak to the bride and grooms personalities but also doesn’t kill the budget sip after sip. Beer, wine, and three signature cocktails are what we added to the drink menu.

They call it Southern Hospitality for a reason. One of my favorite things about going home is always feeling welcome wherever I go and taking in that southern lifestyle that is just so special to Aaron and myself. Wedding favors were the easiest way for Aaron and I to welcome in our friends from all over the country and give them special gifts that have a certain southern flair. Some are yummy, others are humorous, and some are just plain sweet. Take a look at some of the unforgettable and easy ideas. PS… maybe even try these as hostess gifts for the upcoming Holiday Season!

*** This week on Courtney Says I Do… we are voting Beauty Looks and Shoes… two of the most fun parts of the planning around the DRESS! Let me know which style you like the best by voting this week. Countdown is on… 3 WEEKS! I can’t even believe it ;-).
