Community Update

by on ‎07-24-2014 03:35 PM

We would like to thank everyone who took the time to weigh in on the ways to make the Community forum experience better. Below are the next steps we are going to take after reviewing the results and determining what type of forum experience we want our customers to have.

Community members logged in page

Most of you don’t know where this page is (see results here). Which we guess is a good thing because, among those who know this page, the majority of you want this page to be removed. We’re looking into some other options to allow members to know when their friends are logged in, but for now we feel it is better to remove this page by the end of the month.

QVC employees posting comments in the forums

We are going to take baby steps with this concept and only allow a select group of VERY BRAVE employees to post comments in a designated area of the forums (Q Talk Forums)...{#emotions_dlg.crying}

We already comment on other social sites (QVC facebook, QVC twitter, toGather, etc.) and think we can add value by participating in discussions where we can be helpful. Survey results indicated almost all of you are ready for us to join the discussions.{#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

Keeping the forums awesome

The QVC forums have been in existence for a decade, and keeping the experience awesome is going to require every member do their part. You don’t all have to be friends, but you do have to be respectful towards each other if you wish to participate in the discussions here.  We are using three methods to keep the forums awesome: removing nasty posts, closing commenting to cool off a potentially nasty discussion, and when all else fails permanently banning members who are not able to be respectful.

The negative posts we are most concerned with are the posts that are nasty (i.e. personal attacks). Community members are welcome to share a negative review about a product or brand, unhappiness with programming, and even share displeasure with a host. But nasty comments will be removed and may result in the author being permanently banned. Those who took the survey share our interest in removing the nasty comments directed towards fellow Community members and hosts, see the results here.

Forum discussion maintenance

To the members who participate in forums that have thousands of replies because the post began years ago, we will not be making any immediate changes.

At the start of the New Year we will be closing commenting for these long standing threads, which we hope you will restart and continue your conversations. Most survey participants want QVC to close these older posts after a certain time period (see results here). However the supporting comments really helped us make the decision to basically leave these long standing posts alone.

As many stated, these long standing threads are not hurting anyone and it does not make sense to close a forum that people continue to use. Hopefully the members who participate in these long standing discussions will not object to these posts ending at the start of every New Year with the option to start a new immediately.

We can't make the forums perfect for everyone, but hopefully everyone will appreciate our intention to keep the forums awesome!

(forgive me, I just saw the LEGO movie with my kids and awesome is a popular word in that movie {#emotions_dlg.biggrin})
