Show Your Love This Valentine’s Day

by ‎01-31-2014 04:29 PM - edited ‎06-29-2015 09:16 AM

Hi there,

This month I’m turning my blog entry over to Editorial Team member Ashley. As copy editor, Ashley makes sure all our i’s are dotted and our t’s are crossed. But that’s not the extent of her talents, as you’ll see below. She has an eye for great gift suggestions and quite a way with words. Take it away, Ashley!

Valentine’s Day is almost here! Can you feel the dread in the air? Yes, you read that right. Every year certain people enjoy reminding us that the only purpose of Valentine’s Day is to provide card, flower, and candy companies with another way to turn a profit. The February 14 “haters” reject Cupid; shun the combination of pink, purple, and red; and nearly lose their lunch at the sight of teddy bears holding hearts that say, “I love you.”

Whether you’re in a relationship or not, the fact of the matter is we all love someone. And you don’t have to show it with dozens of roses or a life-sized card. Think outside the box this year when it comes to what you give, and who you give to. In addition to, or in lieu of, a significant other, think about your friend who just got out of a long-term relationship and could really use a smile; your co-worker who’s been super stressed and might need a good laugh; or your parents who are always there for you.

Here are some ideas for showing your appreciation to the loved ones in your life.

For Her

philosophy loveswept spray fragrance, 2-oz edition – Perfect for the hard-to-shop-for high schooler, this floral fragrance is sure to win her heart.

bareMinerals True Romantic 3-Piece Eye & Cheek Collection – Four eyeshadows, a blush, and an eyeliner? Be still, my beating heart! The soft, feminine colors and too-cute packaging are sure to make your BFF’s heart go pitter-patter.

Dooney & Bourke Nylon Shopper with Braided Handles  – Give her something she can depend on. Roomy enough to hold all her essentials, this nylon shopper will never disappoint. The braided leather straps add to its sophisticated style.

Susan Graver Double Row Crystal Necklace – Are you seeing what I’m seeing? This eye-catching statement necklace comes in four stunning colors. It’s fabulous for the fashionista who will pair it with her cocktail dresses and solid tees—the options are endless!

Prepology 6-Piece Nonstick Cutlery Set with Sheaths – Kiss the cook? I’ll cut to the chase—these nonstick knives will have the cook kissing you!

For Him

Cheryl’s Valentine’s Day Single Cookie Gift Boxes – My mom always said food is the way to a man’s heart, so I’d be remiss if I didn’t suggest some tasty treats! These frosted cut-out cookies are individually boxed—making them perfect for the man on the go, or for handing out among your co-workers.

And here’s another edible option… Cheryl’s Valentine Cookie Flowers  – If your guy isn’t sweet on the idea of a big bouquet of flowers sitting on his desk, this may be the perfect substitute! He’ll be grinning ear to ear when he discovers eight stems of delicious cookies. Even better—these don’t need water (but they might need a glass of milk!).

Motion Activated Light-Up College Decal by Lori Greiner – Has your son run out of ways to show his collegiate pride? You’ll kick up his cool factor (and yours!) when you hand him this car window decal that lights up when the car is in motion.

Fitbit Flex Wireless Activity and Sleep Tracker Wristband – He doesn’t have to be a fitness fanatic to appreciate this wireless wristband. It’s technology at its best—a device that tracks his steps taken and calories burned during the day, plus his sleep cycle at night. Warning: you’ll want one, too!

For Kids

Peek-a-Boo Bear Interactive Huggable Plush by Gund  – Isn’t he the sweetest? Your youngest valentine will love watching this teddy bear’s mouth, hands, and arms move while he talks and plays peek-a-boo.

Classic Tale Full-Color Collectible Pop-Up Book by Robert Sabuda  – The fairy tale really comes to life in the 3D pages of these full-color pop-up books. Your child will ask you to read them again and again.

For Pets

Don’t forget your four-legged friends. My puppy, Ralph, will be celebrating his first Valentine’s Day this year!

                                Ralph (not for sale)

Kong Company Wobbler  – Ralph is always hungry, so I know he’ll have his paws all over this. Every time he knocks the Wobbler over, treats will fall out! Large enough to hold up to two cups of food, it will keep your furry friend entertained for quite a while—which is also a treat for you!

Cheese Chase Cat Toy  – Forget that cat nap, your favorite feline will be wide awake when this toy’s in sight. With two balls to chase and a catnip-filled mouse to paw at, your pet will have fun for hours.
