Behind the Scenes with Rick & Shawn

Hi there!

Growing up the middle child between two sisters was not always easy. There was the usual sibling rivalry, and at any given time it was me and my older sister against my younger sister, me and my younger sister against my older sister, or (worst-case scenario for me) both my sisters would gang up on me!

My older sister, Tracee, reigned supreme for four years before I came along. Needless to say, she wasn’t as happy as my parents were when I was born. Mom tells stories of how Tracee tried to get rid of me (for example, by having me tie the window blinds cord around my neck and jump off the sofa!). Two years later my sister Kellie was born. Unlike my older sibling, I didn’t try to do my baby sister in. Rather, Mom likes to relate how I would get out of my bed at night and sleep on the floor next to Kellie’s crib.

It’s fun to look back on those years now and joke about how we fought and teased each other. Those memories were brought back when I stopped by the photo shoot for the January InsideQ cover with Rick Domeier and Shawn Killinger.

Rick and Shawn have a new show, Anything Goes with Rick & Shawn, debuting January 10. The show is aptly named. These two program hosts aren’t afraid to tell it like it is, whether they’re asked or not. Anything Goes with Rick & Shawn is live TV where anything can happen, and it probably will if this photo shoot was any indication!

I was hoping to witness first-hand the brother/sister chemistry between these hosts, and I wasn’t disappointed; it was evident even before the photographer started snapping pictures. “You’re my ‘big brother,’” Shawn coached Rick, “so you’re supposed look annoyed by me all the time!”

When the photo shoot began, it was more like a game of Twister between Rick and Shawn. Like Mom always said, if you fool around, you’re going to get hurt, and sure enough Shawn developed a cramp in her neck. “I’ve got a date tonight,” she told Rick. “I can’t be injured!”

“It’s not like you were lifting heavy equipment,” Rick teased, “you were posing!”

Chris, the photographer, asked Rick and Shawn to try some “serious” poses. “How do you want us?” Rick asked, trying different poses with Shawn. “Like this? Like this?”

“Look at each other up close,” Chris instructed.

“His breath smells,” Shawn joked.

“It so does not,” Rick shot back. “Well, maybe a little . . .”

“Rick, you should look perplexed,” Chris suggested. Rick tried it a few times, then admitted, “I’m perplexed about my perplexed look!”

During a break, I caught Shawn reapplying her lip gloss and asked her if it was Mally. “Yes, the color is Just Heaven,” she told me. “I’m also wearing Mally mascara and foundation, tokidoki eye shadow and Bobbi Brown eye liner.”

Back in front of the camera, she and Rick continued their good-natured bantering and antics, capturing the essence of Anything Goes with Rick & Shawn. You can read all about this show in the January InsideQ. If you’re not a member, join today!

After one shot was taken with Shawn standing behind Rick and playfully pushing him away, Rick yelled proudly, “That’s the cover!”

Look for my next blog in a couple of weeks when I share with you my recipe for Mom’s apple pie. And for advance news about what’s coming up in InsideQ and on InsideQ Online, follow my tweets at Twitter.com/QVC.

Happy trails!
