Q Review - A Look Back and a Glance Ahead!

by on ‎05-19-2014 04:58 PM

I remember the first time a clip of me showed up on a certain evening cable show that makes fun of such clips of TV programs from the week before.  I was presenting flameless candles at 2 am and apparently the host found my affection for soft lighting humorous. He also managed to simultaneously hit on me while making fun of my dress. I’ll admit, I laughed; it was funny. Within hours all the under 30’s, ex-boyfriends and hip people in my life (not implying at all, that ex-boyfriends are also hip people) were texting me and posting to Facebook and giving me virtual high fives. Apparently they didn't realize I was on national television nearly every day as it was. And that my audience on the top shopping channel in the country was infinitely larger than that of this small cable network that likened me to a lifeguard. That aside, all of the sudden I felt like I had finally “made it,” at least in the eyes of all these cool people (and ex-boyfriends, big difference in the two.)  I guess being made fun of on an entertainment show means you are kind of a big deal.

If that’s the case, then we are about to make some of the QVC hosts,  guests and behind the scenes folks you love, a HUGE deal every Thursday night at 9pm EST.  This show is fueled by one of the funniest, quickest, most creative teams you will find in television.

We are launching a QVC entertainment show that takes the best clips of the week before, cuts them down to the juiciest parts and then gives you the real story behind what’s happening.  Imagine your favorite entertainment show (yes, even the one I mentioned above,) now fill it with intriguing clips of your favorite QVC hosts.

We’re talking about explaining why Jacque Gonzales had to run off set during that Breezies presentation and then came back laughing.  Giving you the back story on how Shawn Killinger and Rick Domeier came to co-host a show together (and how it’s still being allowed.) Offering up Philip Phillips pre-show routine and why he was so nervous on the air.

We're explaining how the control room handled it when another celebrity on-air guest had a “wardrobe malfunction,” or what they said in a host’s ear when a caller asked her out on a date during a call.  It's explaining what led to the mental block Rachel Boesing had when she kept calling the guest Stephen, multiple times, when his name was Justin.... okay that one was really me, but you get the idea. It’s the funny behind the scenes life of 24/7 TV.  It’s the history and real lives of our interesting hosts that you don’t find on Google (yeah I know you look for it,) that spills out on television.  It’s the golf cart crash in between sets, a rogue pressure washer, the person who forgot to warm up the Spa-in-A-box for the models.  It’s the really cool product that you missed because it sold out in two minutes. It’s a review of the best of the best from the week before on QVC.

I was so thrilled when I was asked to be a part of this new team.  My news and weather background makes it easy for me to gab on for minutes about just about any topic, but I was a bit nervous about taking ideas created by a writer so hilarious he could be on SNL, and delivering them as intended.  I decided I needed back up. The thing is, my fellow hosts are all just too nice. This show needs to have the freedom to poke a little good hearted fun. I needed quick, witty, and slightly self-deprecating. Oh and someone who wasn’t afraid of the wrath of the other hosts.

Here’s some back story you have never heard me share on the air, Craig Smith and I have history. We’ve worked together since day one in the electronics category and we were both in Las Vegas for the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2014. In our travels it became evident that I loved, I mean loved with a school girl passion, The Dave Mathews Band.  Craig did too, but not like me. I used to travel around and camp out at his concerts.  I survived college by crying to Say Goodbye and rocking out to Ants Marching.  Best of What’s Around was the second first dance at my wedding (I was the bride if I wanted two first dances I got two!) Love, I mean really love.  DMB happened to be playing a private party at CES and I worked my adoration for Dave into every conversation I had with every person I met at the convention. Since Craig was by my side at meetings most of the week, he witnessed my utter lack of self- respect and begging to get into that show.  The night of the concert arrived and I had struck out.  But Craig managed two tickets.  You would think my good buddy, my partner on the air, would hook a girl up and tell me to rush down he was holding the door.  What really happened was he took fellow on-air guest Brett Hamilton to the show and the two preceded to text me pictures and videos all night.

Now Craig may tell the story a little different.  He may claim “right place at right time,” but I have never, and will never forgive him.  Instead of hating him, as I am so clearly entitled to do, It has created a good natured (mostly)sibling like rivalry between us on and off the air.  We can both dish it out and take it.  It’s turned into a relationship in which we can often beat each other to the punch line, and finish one another’ sentences.  Don’t misunderstand,  I still despise the guy; unless he produces Dave Matthews for me he will never be forgiven, but I also secretly love the jerk (and so does my husband for some reason so I’m stuck!)

Despite the fact that I kind of feel like I’m rewarding bad behavior,  for me, Craig was the ideal choice to be by my side hosing the next Emmy Award Winning entertainment show (what too soon to expect an Emmy?)   I know he will be a riot and bring the view of a QVC on-air guest to the show every Thursday night (just wait and see what these guests have seen and heard!)  I also know he’s got my back so if I start to completely butcher a segment; he will turn it around and really make fun of me.

Wait, maybe I need to rethink this.

I’ve had a lot of fun in the past three years hosting shows on QVC, but I have never been as excited about a show as I am this one. It’s completely different than QVCs  regular programming but it still gives you the number one reason most say they watch, the personalities.   You will get a chance to be in on this too.  After all, you are a part of our QVC family.  We will have you help us vote on the clip of the week.  You can ask us questions on Facebook and twitter with #QVCreview.  Questions about hosts, products, anything you want that you may not get answered on a regular show. The show will air Thursdays at 9pm on QVC Plus, and stream live here.  You can also watch past episodes on QVC.com if you miss it live.  Bring your humorous, your interesting, and your quirky questions and see what we can find.  But be prepared; if your twitter handle is say “Hunky_Artichoke55” we may make fun of you a little on national TV.  Just know that means you’ve “made It,” a cable entertainment show just made you a “pretty big deal,” be prepared for the onslaught of virtual pats on the back from all the hip people (and ex-boyfriends) in your life.

Be sure to follow me and Craig on Facebook and twitter to see more behind the scenes of our behind the scenes show (that just got confusing.)  Here are the links:

Uh yea, Craigs not cool enough for Twitter yet; maybe you can help him with that.

Here is the current listing of cable networks that carry QVC Plus, our nearly one year old second channel that gives you a three hour delay of QVC shows as well as new programing like The Mally Show, Your Home With Jill and for course the Emmy Award Winning Q Review (what? Positive thinking right?)
