Happy World Animal Day!

by on ‎10-03-2014 03:53 PM

I've felt a great kinship to animals my entire life...growing up with the pets we had in our family, then later as an adult with pets of my own, and as a pet rescue volunteer. While living in Los Angeles, I had the wonderful opportunity of becoming a Docent at the L.A. Zoo, which allowed me to get to know all kinds of animals and birds from all over the world. It was fascinating and taught me how every single creature has an important purpose on this planet, and how each deserves our care and respect. I hope you will join me in celebrating World Animal Day today... Visit your local zoo or animal shelter and learn about the animals with your kids or grandkids....read a book about animals with them....and certainly give the animals in YOUR care some extra attention today! You know you can always find cute fur baby photos on my Facebook page, or shop some my favorite pet mama and papa picks on toGather. For now, here are some pictures from my recent visit to the North Carolina Zoo....

Train selfie with my travelin' buddy

Giraffes at the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro. They are one of my favorite animals. Did you know they have blue tongues and their babies are born 6 feet tall?!

The NC Zoo has a beautiful lion pride....with four new baby cubs born recently! They had 2 boys and 2 girls. Here their mama keeps a watchful eye while I chatted with her over the barrier.

Three of the month-old cubs having a nap...the other cub was hanging out with his Pop....

Pop (aka King of the Jungle) and now, occasional babysitter.

So glad we have a day to celebrate the entire animal kingdom (though I know many of us celebrate them everyday!) Do you have a favorite animal??

XO,

Carolyn
