rediscover the beauty in aging with the philosophy miracle worker TSV

by on ‎10-08-2012 02:16 PM

there’s beauty in aging. yes, we said it, and it’s 100% true! throughout our lives, the term “aging” often follows its own lifecycle based on our current situational context or mindset. when we were children, we looked forward to aging and being old enough to participate in various activities and/or rites of passage. in young adulthood, we often looked at aging from the perspective of maturity and being taken seriously by those older than us, including our parents, professors, co-workers, etc. then, once we hit our 30s, the concept seemed to take a nosedive into negativity. now, we worry more about the toll aging takes on our bodies (most notably our skin) than seeing it as filled with possibilities, maturity, and wisdom. some of the most beautiful women in the world are in their 80s, 90s, and even 100s! their immense beauty radiates from their kind hearts and joyful spirits, making them even more magnetic and attractive than some women half their age.

dara"while i don't profess to be an aging expert or have multiple secrets on how to beat the aging clock, feeling young isn't a problem for me. i feel like that girl back in school, laughing and being right in the moment. i don’t want to try too hard to 'look younger' because i know i'll never win that game. instead, i try to concentrate my efforts in being the very best i can for my age. it can take some minor updates here and there to keep up with the times and that's fine by me. i do love to update with fashion and accessories, but those are just things. being the best person i can be and remembering to be kind to myself so i'm able to be kind to others is something i put into motion every day."

heidi"i've never been afraid of getting older. i attribute it to the fact that i’ve always been surrounded by people who've embraced the aging process rather than fought it. to be in the constant company of role models who truly celebrate each birthday with glee as opposed to gloom has largely contributed to my positive stance on getting older. in observing these ageless individuals, i've learned four best practices i believe are the keys to staying “forever young:” 1) pursue your passions; 2) make a difference in the life of another person; 3) focus on the present moment rather than ruminating about the past or planning for the future; 4) always ensure you're learning something both new and challenging."

mari lyn"don’t let the mirror or scales be your judge. to stay youthful, my advice is to use the three Es: exercise, eat healthy, and exfoliate. oooh, take the time to indulge, too (just not every day, unless it’s with a philosophy food-scented shower gel). feel good about YOU! listen to current music, even if it’s not your favorite. don’t be afraid to try new things, like fashion, food, and fun activities. get outside and move around. it's glorious any time of year. sing out loud, laugh out loud from deep in the belly, dance (even if you think you can’t), and most of all, be nice! my grandmother lived to be 102 and was loved by everyone. she always had a smile for you and her eyes danced when she smiled. she's my inspiration and I hope to become half the woman she was."
