WE'RE READY FOR SPRING!!

by on ‎03-01-2010 06:40 PM

Greetings pet lovers!! Here's hoping you and your furry and feathered kids have had a wonderful 2010 so far! At the Gracie household we are READY for SPRING to arrive!! Everyone has a touch of cabin fever, especially with all of the snow we've had here in PA the past few weeks, and can't wait to get outside in the upcoming warmer weather! Of my 8 dogs, only ONE really likes the snow...our Wire Fox Terrier puppy, Rowdy. He leaps through it like a reindeer, disappearing into 4 foot drifts and 3 foot piles, only to reappear seconds later as he leaps around the yard. His audience consists of the older dogs (they recall when they were that energetic) and the various cats (who stare at him out the window, thinking he is completely insane, but glad he is outdoors and not inside chasing them around.) Rowdy was adopted last Fall from a neighbor who could no longer keep him....it was us, a pet store or a shelter...so you can guess where he wound up! He is now 7 months old and we adore him, despite the fact that he is very high energy and a handful. He is very smart and such a good boy. The other dogs have accepted him and the cats (except for the cat who THINKS she's a dog, Purrl) simply scatter when he is about.
We still have our little Noah's Ark here....dogs, cats, parrots and bunnies, along with three guinea pigs. All are doing well...some getting into their senior years, but still going strong. My oldest dogs are now 10, and I have a couple of 12 year old cats. My oldest parrot is 20 now, and I have a few senior bunnies, who are between 9 and 10 (pretty old for a rabbit). But, everyone is well and content and yes, for the most part, they all get along!!

We did lose one of our cats to heart disease a few weeks ago...our dear adopted Riley. (pictured.) She was adopted from a co-worker three years ago and seemed fine until recently she began showing symptoms of heart trouble. Although we gave her the best treatment, she did not stay with us very long after being diagnosed. We only had her for a few short years, but she was a wonderful cat...a Ragdoll...and we miss her terribly...she used to always sit in the front window and sometimes I can still see her there. We also discovered recently that one of dogs, Henry, a Cocker mix, also has some (unrelated) heart issues, which so far have responded well to treatment. We are keeping all fingers and paws crossed that Henry continues to do well...he is one of my original "trio" of dogs and I can't imagine not having one of my Three Musketeers around...he is the smiling-est dog we've ever seen. We just love our Henny Penny. Speaking of dogs...our dear friend Cesar Millan returned to the Q this past Friday, Feb. 26th at 9am eastern. He'll brought in some new products and training videos...one especially for puppies. We're looking forward to having Cesar on the Q again....he is terrific and so full of great advice and tips for dog owners. He also just lost his long time companion, Daddy the Pit Bull, after many years together. Daddy passed away of old age last week. I know we'll be talking about Daddy on the show....he was the "model dog" for much of Cesar's philosophy of having calm, passive energy and being well-balanced.
So, be sure and tune in for another great show with Cesar this Friday and remember, you can find Cesar's products along with lots of other great products for your pets on QVC.com.
