Christmas Through My Daughter’s Eyes

by on ‎12-09-2014 01:37 PM

If Thanksgiving was any indication of how special Christmas will be with Olive this year then my wish is for each day of this holiday season, to be in slow motion so I can truly embrace every little moment through her eyes.

We were having a little bit of a rock n roll fashion moment

This Christmas Olive will be 18 months old and although my mom says she is ‘very’ advanced J, I don’t think she quite understood last Christmas when she was just 6 months old.

Olive & I last Christmas, 6 months old

Every year growing up, my dad would dress up as Santa Clause and visit all the kids in the neighborhood, this year, one of my best friends dressed up and showed up at my parent’s home to Surprise Olive.

Olive has taken on my love of hats ever since she was little, when she saw the Santa hat it was the only thing she wanted to wear.

Last week, my family went to our city’s annual Christmas parade. A parade I remember going to when I was a kid.  Just as I did so many years ago with my family, Olive sat along the curb and watched the local high school marching bands, dance troops, & of course Santa parade along the street handing out candy canes.  She sat in awe, waving, clapping, and trying to sing along with the music as I sat there like the Daddi-razzi that I am, taking photos and making videos of each moment.

Everything is new again as I experience life all over through Olive’s eyes.

This year, Olive had such a great time playing hide n seek in the Christmas tree lot while we picked up a tree for both my parent’s and my home. I have to say, that although we normally get a 7’ tree for our home, Olive fell in love with this Charlie Brown tree… so guess which one came home with us?

I don’t know where she gets her animation from?

Honestly, this is her everyday…beyond blessed.

When Olive was born 18 months ago, I felt as though I was reborn.  I’ve always prided myself on my ability to celebrate each day that ends in ‘Y’, but there is just something about experiencing life’s moments through my daughter’s eyes.  I look forward to all the holiday parties, cookie exchanges, chorus recitals & holiday music this season.

Early Christmas morning, when Olive and her cousins gather around the Christmas tree and screech in delight with what Santa Clause has brought them, I will quietly reflect & enjoy each moment knowing that these are moments that will become beautiful memories that my family will embrace for years to come.

Wishing each of you a blessed holiday,
