Happy Mother's Day

by on ‎05-04-2014 09:46 AM

It’s May, which means Mother’s Day. Wanted to share some pix of me and my Mom. She’s such a special lady. (Don’t tell her I told you she is 75yrs old) She’s not had an easy time of it. Mom is an artist (but she always dreamed of being an International Spy. No joke.) She had a tough delivery with me, says she almost died. And all throughout my life, through dance recitals with bad sailor costumes, to theater tryouts for the musical Oliver where she sketched the cover for the play program, to planning my birthday parties at McDonald’s with Kermit hats and soothing me when some little girls didn’t come…all through that and more, the most important thing Mom ever taught me was to dream big. The thing I remember most that she used to say, “You give your kids two things: roots and wings”. Thanks Mom for giving me my wings. I truly would not be where I am today, without your gentle pushing, loving and pep talking. You always tell me it’s going to be ok, and that always makes me feel so safe. I luv u. x

I’m about 3yrs old here…the 70’s kill me. I was born in ’72. We had a dog named Jiggs.

I loved that sweater, had Miss Piggy on it. We are in our living room. Mom loved that room. I remember that painting behind us, to this day.

It was my 6th birthday. We were at a sundae shop called Farrell’s in Michigan.

I’m about 10 here.  A year later we moved to Mexico which was the adventure of my Mom’s life. She loved it. So did I.

H.S. graduation. 1995. I was headed to Penn State. Mom was so proud

I worked for CBS News in NYC right out of college. Mom could not have been prouder that her daughter was running coffee for Dan Rather.

I was a Reporter in Albany NY and it was my birthday. Mom and Dad drove in from Michigan to take me out.

It took me a long time to find love. I was 40. I think it was a proud, comforting, closure moment for my Mom when I got married She adores Joe.

My all time, absolute, favorite photo of my mom. Because it is just pure, unbridled joy...
