Decorating for Thanksgiving

Like many people in many professions, QVC hosts work a lot of holidays. This year, I'm working on Thanksgiving, which means we won't be traveling on the day to see our out-of-town family members. So, my husband and two daughters and I are celebrating with a small dinner for four. At first, I was a little bummed about not sitting down to a huge spread with our extended family, but then I decided this little party is going to be awesome. I am at my happiest when the four us are together with no distractions and my kids love making crafts, so let the festivities begin!

I told my girls that they would be in charge of decorating. First, they sat down and came up with a game plan.

However, at some point, they scrapped the work they started and headed to our basement so they could work in secret. Here's a small sample of how our kitchen will be decorated.

My 12-year-old daughter cut a toilet paper roll in half and helped her 5-year-old sister trace their handprints. The "greenery" came home from the school playground in my little one's pocket. She was so excited to add it to the finished piece. Smiley Happy

Here's another variation on the "hand"-made turkey.

We make window art with wax paper, leaves and crayons every year. It's simple and it lasts for months. We made this one last month and more are on the way, if they can still find some pretty leaves. Simply put fall leaves on a sheet of wax paper, add shavings from crayons (I just cut the ends of a few crayons with a butter knife) and place another piece of wax paper on top. Press with an iron and trim the edges. The end result looks beautiful in a window.

These crafts aren't elaborate  and they didn't take much time or cost anything to make. While they may not be the most elegant creations, they are the most precious to me. I like anything that falls into the "making memories" category. Hope you have a great holiday season, and don't forget to click "like" on my Facebook page, where my Facebook friends and I are always chatting. I'm also on Twitter {@sandraqvc}, and share more of my style, beauty, and holiday favorites on toGather! Happy Thanksgiving!
