Senior Mom Blog - Homecoming

Fall and football season has always been one of my favorite times of the year...the sound of the band and crisp fall air makes for the perfect Friday night in high school...hence the homecoming game as a senior is another memory of a lifetime...

Friday afternoon was the pep rally and tailgating but the rain came...disappointing but the game went on that night.  No team victories or homecoming court but lots of school team spirit...Nicole and her friends looked wonderful for the dance as I struggled to imagine them looking so grown up...then I struggled to get in my car and go home without driving by the school...instead I ate an entire pint of frozen yogurt..

I had to wonder if my mom worried about her three girls going to the dance? I also remembered my favorite homecoming dance from my freshman year...

Realize that I grew up in a very small town where a football game was huge especially with a biggest rivalry on Thanksgiving day every year...my best memory is the year when we won which our team had not done for some twenty years...the entire town came out to welcome home the team with an impromptu parade of fire trucks carrying the team...the entire town celebrated that night...

So Nicole's team did not win, nor was she on the homecoming court but all of the kids in town got home safely...another memory of friendship and school spirit...This week everyone wore pink to the game in support of breast cancer...

Winning is not only the score at the end of the game...Thanks for sharing this month of the senior mom journey with me...also please share your homecoming stories with me...
