Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line a cookie sheet with sides with wax (parchment paper). Grease the paper with butter and line with crackers from end to end.
In a sauce pan on low to medium heat, stir together the brown sugar and butter until the butter is completely melted. Pour the mixture over the crackers and bake for 5 minutes.
Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over entire pan. Let stand until the chocolate chips melt and then spread like you would frosting. Sprinkle with chopped nuts, if desired.
Elizabeth took these to share with her classmates on the last day of school. She said they were a big hit and I, of course, love them!
I'm sorry I only have pictures to share of the finished product and not step-by-step. They do say the memory is the first to go! : )
I accidentally used aluminum foil, but trust me, wax paper works much better.
I cut them into squares with a pizza cutter.
