What Do You Know About Greek Cuisine? What Foods Have You Tried?

Hello, foodies…

I can't believe August is almost over! And that means Global Cuisine Month on In the Kitchen with David is drawing to a close. It's been a fun month, hasn't it? And, I must say, we saved one of my favorite destinations for last: Greece. I had the pleasure of traveling to Greece a few years ago, and not only is it a BEAUTIFUL country, but the food is just incredible. Wednesday's recipe is inspired after a dish I had on my trip. We're making a flavorful, traditional, Greek Salad.

This recipe is prepared with the Technique 7" Kohaishu Knife (K36133).

Go to David's Recipe Item Page for the full list of items that David has used in his recipes.

Ingredients:

Dressing:

1 cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt

1-1/2 tsp garlic, minced

1 Tbsp lemon juice

2 Tbsp red wine vinegar

1 tsp dried oregano

1/2 Tbsp honey

1 anchovy filet, minced

1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled

Salad:

8 cups romaine lettuce, chopped

4 large tomatoes, diced

2 large English cucumbers, diced

1/2 medium red onion, thinly sliced

3/4 cup kalamata olives, halved

1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled

Directions:

Combine all the dressing ingredients (except the feta) in a large bowl. Stir well and then fold in the feta. Add the tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, and olives to the dressing and toss to coat.

To assemble the salad, place the romaine on a large platter and top with the dressed veggies. Top with the remaining feta cheese and serve.

I think many of you have probably had a Greek Salad at some point in your life…perhaps even a gyro or baklava. But what other Greek foods have you tried? Maybe spanakopita? Pastitsio? Dolmades? Have you ever heard of these dishes? If you're a fan of these (or another Greek specialty), "reply all" and tell all your other fellow foodies what they're missing.

Keep it flavorful!

David

P.S. Like the Italians (and Spanish and French…), Greeks often cook with wine. And, at the Best New Chefs bash earlier this year, FOOD & WINE Executive Wine Editor Ray Isle gave me a few great tips about choosing the right wine for your recipes. Happy cooking!
