Christmas in July – It’s a Wrap

by on ‎07-24-2012 05:28 PM

Oh hear those sleigh bells jingling, (ring ting-tingling too!) But wait – isn't it a little early for that? After all, it's traditionally the time of year when we're more accustomed to hearing the jingle of ice cream trucks instead of sleigh bells, shoveling sand instead of snow, and finding ourselves sunburned instead of frost bitten. ...Except of course if you're in West Chester, PA for QVC's annual Christmas in July event! This past weekend, we were treated to a taste of the season. With a little Christmas magic (and a little help from our hardworking air conditioning system) it was a fantastic way to pretend it was December for just one weekend and beat the Summer heat.

In the 48 hours of Christmas that we featured, there were a lot of amazing products, sets, and guests. We want to know what you guys loved most about the event and what are some of your favorite parts of the holidays.  So we're asking you to vote below and help us spread some holiday cheer!

A Picture Perfect Scene:

During the week leading up to Christmas in July, our sets undergo a transformation. The trees are brought out, lights are hung and before you know it – you have a gorgeous Christmas scene. This year was no exception, with fabulous sets decorated by Jill Bauer, Bethlehem Lights, Lori Greiner, and Valerie Parr Hill. It's a tough decision we know, but which of these sets enchanted and inspired you the most?

The Kitchen - the Heart of the Home (& Studio):

Chopping, mixing, spicing, and dicing! It’s just like any busy Sunday afternoon at home, the kitchen is always the hub of activity! Our studio is no different. In the studio during our food shows, a dizzying array of sweets, treats, and meats line up for their on-air debut.

Countless amounts of food, extra sets of hands, and hours of prep work go in to making those decadent dishes, especially during our holiday events - Christmas in July included!  Much like the hours spent prepping and preparing holiday meals for loved ones at home, the studio is bustling about, full of prep chefs, stylists, and cooks on hand to deliver that one-of-a-kind presentation at just the right time. It’s really no different than meeting that Christmas Eve dinner deadline!

Each sell is carefully thought out, cooked, and styled to appease all the senses. While our hosts are on the air, backstage, behind the studio, tables are lined up for their airing.

The sound of timers going off, microwaves beeping, water boiling, and last minute touching up takes place for that extra creamy Mac and Cheese dish. Everyone appreciates a little extra effort and help around the holidays, and as studio coordinators we are truly grateful for all the hard work that goes into each cooking show – we are just a small piece of the pie.  Take a glimpse at our backstage view of the Gourmet Food show during our Christmas in July event this past Sunday!

Christmas Glow:

Christmas Glow: You sing about it in iconic Christmas carols, you feel it, you sense it, and most importantly you see it—that warm, rosy, Christmas glow. When the nights are cold and the days are short, nothing is quite as comforting and inviting as the soft glimmer of Christmas lights. The holiday lights and candles that set your heart and home aglow with the spirit of the season are shining examples of what we love at the Q—it’s what gets us twinkling with excitement for the Christmas season!  Being involved in the production of several shows this Christmas in July, the Scoop team was there first hand to see the radiant lights being strung on trees, the candles being carefully adorned along the hearth, and the ornaments elegantly dangling. So take a peek behind the scenes at our summer wonderland - beautifully lit with the season’s best and brightest decorations!

As Christmas in July weekend wraps up, the trees are taken down, the ornaments are carefully placed in boxes, and the sets are slowly transforming back to their summer selves; we want you to keep the magic and the spirit alive by participating in our poll questions, and letting us know about your favorites this Christmas in July weekend. We hope you enjoyed the event as much as we did in the studio.  Christmas may be a few months away, but it’s never too early to remind ourselves of the true meaning of this holiday as we look forward to spending time with friends and family, and find joy in giving to those we love! Merry Christmas in July!
