The Holiday Season Begins - Start Planning Ahead! Cookie Swap This Sunday!

by on ‎12-02-2011 05:58 PM

Hello, foodies…

Happy December! My countdown to Christmas has officially begun! In just three weeks, we’ll be singing carols, spending time with our family and loved ones, and of course, eating some FANTASTIC food! But, there’s a lot to do and even more to enjoy until the holiday officially arrives. For example, have you thought about cookie-baking yet? What kind you’ll make? And how many? To get you inspired, we’re having a Cookie Swap this Sunday on In the Kitchen with David. We’ll have cookie recipes, baking helpers, and of course, tips!

Cookbook Corner” on Sunday is a double feature. The first book is a Treasury of Christmas from Taste of Home (F09568), which contains over 700 (yes, 700!) holiday recipes like Eggnog Dip, Merry Cherry Bars, and Candy Cane Popcorn Balls. Believe it or not, 700 recipes wasn’t enough for Taste of Home. They also included a 352-page bonus book…Christmas Cookies & Candies! There are SO many terrific cookie recipes in here, and you can bet we’ll have quite a spread to show you! Get both books for an incredible price of $20!

Our second "Cookbook Corner" title is a book you know and love…Bob Warden’s Great Food Fast (F09653). With a Lighter Fare section, cooking time charts, plus 130 brand-new recipes, this is THE book for pressure cooker owners. It’s the last day at the Advance Order price on this selection. Don’t miss it!

David’s Recipe” is a classic, tried-and-true recipe that reminds you of Grandma’s house: Sugar Cookie Cutouts. Get everyone into the kitchen when you make these cookies. Have your older kids or grandkids help you with the batter, have everyone take a turn cutting out shapes, then decorate! Add your sprinkles and candies just before baking. If you’re frosting the cookies, do it after they come out of the oven. We’re using the containers from the Lock & Lock 9-piece Storage Set (K35851) to store and keep our cookies fresh. Look for the recipe (and all my other cookie recipes) on QVC.com.

“Food for Thought” talks about managing your time over the next few weeks, so you can enjoy the spirit of the season and the magic of the Christmas holiday. It may seem like you have plenty of time to tackle those holiday cards, finish the shopping, do the wrapping, and everything else. But, it’s such a busy month. And three weeks isn’t as much time as you think. To keep you on track, here’s a little holiday checklist to help you prepare for the big day. Print it out, put it on your fridge, and cross the tasks off as you complete them.

Ready for your blog question? Thinking back to our cookie theme, what’s your favorite holiday cookie? Is it a sugar cookie, snicker doodle, gingerbread, or a chocolate chip? Share your delicious responses below then join me on Sunday at Noon ET! Have a glass of milk in hand. You’re going to need it!

Keep it flavorful!

David

P.S. Speaking of cookie swaps, a little Angel told me there’s another cookie swap happening on QVC this Wednesday at 10 a.m. ET! That Angel is Quacker Factory’s Angel Smedley and, of course, it’s all happening during their live studio broadcast! Do you have a recipe you’re willing to share with your fellow foodies and those fun Quacker folks? Add it here!
