Cooking On Q Holiday Edition & A Visit From The Cake Boss!

by on ‎10-28-2011 06:48 PM

Hello, foodies…

The end of October is drawing near and autumn is in full swing! The leaves are changing colors and it feels crisp and cool outside. It’s the perfect time for our final Cooking on Q event of the year! This Sunday, we’ll celebrate the all-day holiday-edition cooking extravaganza with a 4-hour In The Kitchen with David. We’ll also wrap up "Baking Month" with some fantastic sweet treats!

Cookbook Corner” on Sunday welcomes back Buddy Valastro (a.k.a. “The Cake Boss”). Baking with the Cake Boss (F09561) features 100 of Buddy’s best recipes and baking secrets. He’ll be showing holiday cakes such as Frankenstein, an adorable turkey cake for Thanksgiving, and desserts perfect for any time of year! The book will be available at the Advance Order price of under $20. (Sunday's the only day for this price!) I can't wait for you to see Buddy's new book. In the meantime, check out the video below. I had the chance to visit Carlo’s Bakery and the Cake Factory recently…talk about a DELICIOUS day!

David’s Recipe” is a salute to our final show of “Baking Month” on In the Kitchen with David. We’re making my soft and chewy Apple Cinnamon Snickerdoodles. This delicious cookie just hits the spot on a chilly autumn day and is so easy to prepare. Look for the recipe on QVC.com. We’ll make the cookie dough in our Today’s Special Value  the KitchenAid Deluxe Edition 10-speed Stand Mixer (K34708). Speaking of KitchenAid, we've also got a brand-new food processor for you this weekend for our Cooking on Q celebration. Here's a preview of that!

“Food for Thought” ties into my recipe and has to do with incorporating fruit into your baking. To keep the fruit pieces whole, gently fold them into the batter by hand. But, if you just want the flavor of the fruit in the mixture, don’t be afraid to mix the fruit in with the other ingredients. You can even use an electric mixer. For some fruits, like blueberries and raspberries, coat them in flour before adding them to your coffee cake, muffins, or cookies. That way, they won't sink to the bottom or turn your batter blue. Don't be afraid to experiment with adding fruit to many of your favorite recipes…it adds brightness and a wonderful flavor profile to your baking.

Here’s your blog question for this week. In the spirit of baking month and autumn cooking…what's your favorite autumn baked treat? Do you love gingersnaps, pumpkin pie, or warm, yummy apple cake? Share your sweet autumn ideas here and get ready for our BIG 4-hour show coming up this weekend. We’ll have everything you need for all your holiday cooking and baking in the weeks ahead! See you Sunday at Noon ET.

Keep it flavorful!

David
