Meet the FOOD & WINE Best New Chefs - James Lewis

Hello, foodies!

I’m really excited to introduce you to our next Best New Chef for 2011. His name is James Lewis. And he’s a Southern boy like me! Okay, he wasn’t actually born in the south, but he has lived in Alabama for a long time. And now, he’s the chef and owner of one of Birmingham's best restaurants, Bettola.

Before I get ahead of myself, watch the video below. It was shot just after Lewis was named a “Best New Chef” at the FOOD & WINE awards ceremony in New York City.

Lewis has studied in California and Alabama. And, he learned the art of authentic Italian cooking from top culinary artisans in Italy. At Bettola, Lewis offers a soulful approach to food and a commitment to authentic southern Italian cuisine. The ingredients in his handmade pastas and wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas are made from local, farm-fresh ingredients. The wine list works in harmony with the foods he prepares all hailing from small vineyards across Italy.

Soon, Lewis will be opening an authentic Italian butcher shop and restaurant. He plans to name it Vittoria after his grandmother, who first introduced him to cooking.

Click here to read more about Lewis on FOOD & WINE magazine’s website. You’ll even find a recipe there for Crisp-Skinned Porchetta with Lemon and Chile. Yum!

Keep it flavorful!
