Happy Holidays Everyone!

by on ‎12-01-2009 12:46 AM

I have been churning out so much new one of a kind jewelry for my store and all my trunk shows that I feel like I have been sequestered from the rest of the world....Sorry I have not written a new blog since my last home show, but I do want to reach out and send my best wishes to all for a great holiday season..

Speaking of my home show, there are many wonderful items that you can find on .com. For example, the Keepsake Box (H164136),
which cheers me up every time I look at mine, and the set of 2 Tablet Photo Frames (H164131) which is such an iconic sculptural piece. I would love to have my home show on the same day as my jewelry show as I feel my jewelry customer is the right audience for my home line, don't you agree? I encourage you to go to my home page on qvc.com
and check out RLM Home and see the wonderful assortment that is still available!

By the way, during my trunk shows, I am getting to meet a lot of my QVC customers and it is always a shock to the owners of the jewelry store that is selling my work to see this new group of very enthusiastic and very well informed people coming to see my "other" collections and have me sign their RLM studio jewelry. I was in Albany N.Y. at the jewelry store in that town called Frank Adams, and they did a radio commercial that all brought in dozens of excited local QVC customers. The owners of the store were thrilled to meet so many RLM fans that they never knew were living right under their nose!

I did another show in San Juan, Puerto Rico at Reinhold Jewelers, (one of the top designer jewelry stores in the USA), and customers came in wearing their RLM Studio jewelry mixed with their "couture" RLM and I was shocked at the creativity of these people, which included men as well!

Making jewelry for me is actually a form of meditation I have realized...especially the one of a kind pieces which you can only find in my Soho store and various other retailers, and so I am especially thankful that my "work" is also my "play", and perhaps this is one reason I have not stopped in 40 years spinning jewelry out of piles of raw materials, just like Rumpelstiltskin! I step back and see myself from a distance, as if I were another person, and I see a man totally absorbed in his bliss, unaware of time passing or the need for food as he sits for up to 4 hours at a time "spinning at his magical wheel.

It is interesting that internet sales in this country seem to be very healthy and growing while brick and mortar store business is suffering. This is a very exciting cultural and economic situation, and I am seeing a whole new world opening up as I see on the forum threads that you are starting to explore this as well. Remember when this first started years ago and we were all afraid to shop at on the internet for fear of security or fraud issues. Now we trust shopping this way and it is becoming the future.

My how our lives have changed...in just the last ten years, which brings me to the realization that my daughter's birthday (Dec 23) and Taylor will be 10 this year, TEN YEARS OLD!! a whole decade of pure joy for Susan and me.
Again, happy happy kick off of holiday 2009, and join me in giving thanks for all we have as Americans and free, very blessed people compared with so much of the rest of the world.

Cheers,
Robert Lee
