Reflections on 2007

What a wonderful year 2007 was. I have so much to be grateful for. One of the highlights was the birth of a daughter to my Niece Tracy. My family is all healthy and remains loving and close. I have my health and a job that is still challenging and rewarding. I am carrying another 10 lbs (OK probably 15) or so and have less hair but that is not really very important in the big picture.

After 30 years in the jewelry industry I am still amazed how each year brings new, interesting trends and direction. This past year was no exception. Chocolate gold was one of the big new ideas in 2007. I had heard that brown was the new black (whatever that means) and it certainly translated into jewelry. We also saw this in stones such as tigers-eye and smoky quartz. Tigers-eye will definitely continue to be hot through Fall 2008 while the more golden quartzes such as cinnamon, champagne, or whiskey are really picking up. Champagne diamonds and chocolate Diamonique were other hot items this year and will continue to be important.

Earrings went from chandelier to chandelinier to linier this year. The long drops, which are very flattering, continue to be hot. We saw the reemergence of the button earring. My Mother has been trying to get me to develop more of these and the market agreed with her.

Rings remained bold and very colorful. Large center stones in rich colors and pave diamonds drove these looks. Multi color remains strong and will be in the years to come. Our first ever multi colored gemstone necklace is coming up as a TSV in the Spring-watch for it.

Necklaces were bigger than ever this year. Frontal necklaces were very important. This look will continue well into 2008 and beyond. If you haven't already, check out the Esposito Diamonique Maltese Cross Necklace - it is a WOW.

Bracelets were either bold cuffs and bangles or stackables. More was the buzzword for the year. These will become bolder and more colorful in 2008. Watch for great stretchy bracelets in rich colors.
Many of these wonderful looks will continue to be important into Fall 2008 and beyond. Beautiful jewelry never goes out of style.

Please tune in during January. It is one of the most exciting months at QVC for jewelry. On January 5, the Sterling Designer Gallery will include some of the most talented and famous jewelry designers in America-Judith Ripka, Barbara Bixby, Anthony Nak, Ann King, SeidenGang, Michael Dawkins, and many more. WOW, you can't find that kind of line up in one place, even on Madison Avenue in New York.

The month continues with the biggest Gem Week of the year starting January 7. There are is so much beautiful jewelry, I don't even know where to start. I will only say that a new exclusive to QVC gemstone cut will be premiered and a fabulous ring with stones that have been described as a deep ultramarine teal will be highlighted. That is only a taste of the unbelievable jewelry that will be featured during the week.

The last week of the month brings more excitement. Yours truly will be on-air for a Silver Marketplace show on January 21 (my birthday) but the big event is the 21st California Gold Rush on January 24. This includes all brand new designs never offered anywhere before. WOW, what a month.

I hope you all have a very healthy, happy New Year.
