Just another day at the Q

What is a typical day at QVC? There is no such thing. Every day brings new, exciting projects to work on, products to follow-up on, trips to plan, etc. No two days are alike. I thought I would share a couple of day's activities from this past week.

I am an early riser so am usually in the office between 6:30 and 7:00 AM. Over night, emails from around the world have come in that need immediate actions. It is still early enough in Italy, Turkey, India, Hong Kong, or Bangkok, that they will receive my reply before they leave for the day. These included: new sketches for Affinity Diamonds from Hong Kong mixing champagne and white diamonds, designs from Jaipur for a new show we working on for a March launch, comments from Jennifer Cary in Dallas on new samples just received, a picture of a bracelet from Bangkok that we changed the center stones from Mother of Pearl to Lapis, requests from a new jewelry show in Macau, a notice from Carolyn Pollack (of Sincerely Southwest Jewelry fame) concerning a discount at the Marriott Hotel in Tucson for the gem show, and on and on. All of these are answered and then the day begins. Once the office opens at 8:30 or 9:00, it is non-stop meetings. There was a three hour strategy session with the diamond office concerning product direction for next year. A touch base with Adrienne, the silver jewelry buyer about artisan crafted shows in December and February. Lisa, the gemstone buyer and I went through Jennifer Cary's fabulous new samples. Later that day, we met with a Hollywood star about a new designer show. Once I finally got back to my desk, I tried to answer phone messages and the 100 or so emails that had come in during the day. Finally at 6:30, I left the office.

The next day started out the same but was very different. The President and Vice President of the Gemological Institute of America, and the folks that are in charge of their labs, spent a wonderful four hours with us discussing various gem issues as well as how we can work closer together. It was a very enlightening time and I hope to share more about this with you in later dialogues. That afternoon I met with Nancy Davis, an incredible designer and world-class humanitarian about the jewelry she is working on for Diamonique. She is such an inspiration with her Peace and Love campaign and her work for MS. After a quick touch base with my boss about travel, I headed out about 6:00 or so.

When someone asks me what I do at QVC, it is really hard to give an exact answer, every day is different.
