The Beauty of Pearls

Pearls are always classic and timely but lately have become one of the hottest trends in fashion. White and black pearls are now a fashion necessity. Ladies from the top politicians to the most ultra chic divas are wearing their pearls not only for evening wear but also during the day. Our style guru, Eurydice, told me that “pearls are the perfect accompaniment to some of today's top trends from feminine and romantic styling to tailored classics”.

Many cultures believe that pearls were formed by drops of heavenly moisture falling into the sea and were often said to be divine tears. In one of my earlier entries I mentioned that I thought pearls were one of the most feminine and romantic of all gemstones. In keeping with this, they can also be passionate, mysterious, and sensuous.

The perfect example of this is the upcoming Honora TSV. The rich, deep colors in this necklace were inspired by the dark multi-colored Tahitian cultured pearls found in very expensive, one of a kind necklaces. Joel Schechter, the CEO of Honora , told me that “It took over six months of product development to be able to create a freshwater cultured necklace in these colors that closely resemble these rare Tahitian beauties in colors ranging from black to grays, coppers, golds, greens, and blues”. It took an additional 12 months to collect and string the cultured pearls for this order.

Joel selected ringed cultured pearls from China because of their interesting textures, high luster, and large sizes. The cultured pearls in the TSV range from 8 - 10 MM. Ringed cultured pearls have been featured in some of the most exclusive jewelry stones on Fifth Avenue in New York City. I remember seeing an ad in the New York Times featuring a famous store and its ringed cultured pearls.

Also notice the fabulous clasp. This is one of Honora's signature clasps and it is not only elegant and secure but easy to take on and off.

I have known Joel for many years. His Father, Stanley, was one of the finest gentlemen I have ever had the privilege of working with. When I was the pearl buyer at Best Products, Stanley was one of our main suppliers and taught me much about pearls. It was a true honor to know him and it is now a privilege to work with his son, Joel.
