Italian Gold

The Vicenza Jewelry Show is the best jewelry show in the world to find the newest styling, colors, and textures. The Italian design talent is un-paralleled and many of the top American jewelry designers can be seen there looking for ideas. The Italian designers have such a long, rich jewelry heritage and what better location for inspiration.

The Italian Gold Event is going to have many pieces of jewelry representing the best of these designers. The looks to watch for include gold and gemstones, rose gold with gemstones, curb links-probably the hottest look in bracelets, bolder styling-especially in rings, station necklaces, Etruscan styling in Veronese, and rich textures. There is going to be a manufacturer's show where the actual manufacturer of the product will come on air and talk about their factory. Paola Vecchio will also be here. This is an event that is going to not only offer fabulous product but tell a story as well.

I have been lucky to travel to the Vicenza show with all of our jewelry buyers and top hosts and we are continually amazed at the fresh looks seen at the show. The show is held three times per year and the latest was during the middle of September. It is a great show for us because we not only see what is new but it helps us understand what directions are continuing and which are down trending.

I have often been asked how long does it take for a new trend seen at the show to find its way into the American jewelry box. It used to take much longer than it does now. The high end American designers used to be the first to introduce new looks into the American market but that is changing. QVC walks the same shows and sees the same inspiration that they do. Often we are ahead of what the market is really ready for. Once we see it in magazines and in high end stores, we are all a little more ready to jump in.

Years ago (probably 40 or so), I traveled to Florence with my Mother and remember going to a jewelry store called COI near the Ponte Vechio. It was through a small door, up many stairs and was like being in a candy store. She bought several pieces of 18k gold jewelry, some with stones and some without. Everything that she bought is still right on today. That is one of the wonderful things about Italian jewelry; it is timeless and always beautiful.
