A True Sterling Anniversary!

Hard to believe that we are celebrating the silver anniversary, 25 years of Big Bonanza Silver Day!  This is a time when it is fun to look back and remember how we got started.  Twenty five years ago, we already had a successful gold event, our California Gold Rush.  My fellow silver lovers were wondering if we could do a silver event, so we started researching silver strikes here in the United States.  We wanted to do the event on the anniversary of a big silver day in our history.  So we came upon the biggest silver strike in the history of the United States, the Comstock Lode, discovered in Virginia City, Nevada.  Since that date was March 1st, our first-ever silver event debuted then too.  If you remember our event days we used to dress up, late 1800's style, and the set looked like something right out of a Western movie!  And we even had the QVC dancers entertaining on the day.  (I just can't make this stuff up!)  To be totally honest, I was part of the troupe and the video that survives is hilariously funny - check it out!

Some of the classic items we sold were a set of 10 herringbone Italian necklaces, set of twelve bracelets, and a lovely heart charm necklace that I wore to Virginia City in the early 1990s, and still wear today.

I went to Virigina City to shoot with our video team, and found out that they were originally looking for gold in the mines under the city.  What they were discovering was "blue stuff" they were discarding until someone realized it was precious silver.  March 1st marked the discovery!  A young American writer who later became well known as Mark Twain spent time in Virginia City, and the Disney Imagineers visited the town when looking for the inspiration for Phantom Manor in Disneyland Paris.  Today as we celebrate 25 years of loving sterling silver, I am so proud to see how far our styles have come and that we are honoring our silver heritage too.  I hope you will create new memories with the silver jewelry you see on this Friday, March 1st, 2013, our 25th annual  celebration of sharing a love of silver through the years!
