Ireland’s most romantic symbol is the Claddagh ring. The heart symbolizes love, the crown represents loyalty, and the hands symbolize friendship.
However, as romantic as this sounds, the actual relics of Saint Valentine himself can be seen in Dublin! If you go to the Carmelite Church in Whitefriar Street, there is a shrine dedicated to Saint Valentine and beneath the altar lies a casket containing the body of Saint Valentine himself. The story is told that it was given to an Irish priest when visiting Rome many hundreds of years ago, and he in turn placed it in this church in Dublin.
You can visit the shrine, which is popular with many couples and single people, and there is a book where you can make a special romantic wish and dedicate it to the Saint himself.
Of course, on his feast day on February 14th, the shrine will be packed, and it will be possible to have your ring blessed on this occasion.
Happy Saint Valentine's day!
