Where fashion meets gemstones

We're getting closer! Gem Day is just a few weeks away, set this year for Saturday, June 27th. Can't wait!

Last week I promised you some highlights from the day where fashion meets gemstones, and it's here in two of the hottest colors, blue turquoise and green malachite. These are called opaque stones, but I call them wardrobe must haves
! If gems are beloved for color, then turquoise and malachite add amazing color to your look. Plus, you get a big look, runway ready, for a great price. We immediately think of the southwest when we talk about turquoise, and the ancient Anasazi did mine turquoise throughout our Southwest. But, even Marco Polo wrote about this gem. I think you will love the fabulous designs we are planning for Gem day in "America's Gem," turquoise.

It's funny how gems have been honored for ages, but some tend to come roaring back in popularity. The "it girl" of the gem world today is malachite. I love the intense green shading, don't you? But until this year we haven't seen much of it, and I am thrilled it is back to stay! The elements of iron and copper give turquoise its beautiful color, and copper also creates the green in malachite. Malachite and turquoise also have something else in common, they were believed to be helpful stones, malachite. was thought to warn of danger and prevent illness, turquoise, was thought to warn the wearer of danger or illness by changing color. I think either choice would be perfect for your wardrobe!

Next week: two stones you haven't had much chance to see on gem day!
