“What Happens in Vegas…”

by on ‎06-20-2012 11:20 PM

Can you complete that sentence? Think twice, because you may be wrong! Although this could be a phrase you’ve likely heard before, I have a different ending for it. One that’s much more appropriate for Gem Day and one that may make you happy.

“What happens in Vegas, comes to QVC – quickly”

Just about two weeks ago I spent an amazing few days in Las Vegas with Mary Beth Roe and Antonella Nester (this may not be what some of you are thinking) and what happened in Vegas definitely didn’t stay there! In fact, you’ll see some of it on QVC, Saturday, June 23 during Gem Day.

Every year, at the beginning of June, Las Vegas hosts the equivalent of “Fashion Week” for the jewelry industry. Often called “Jewelry week”, it’s the time when designers and manufacturers introduce their newest collections, much like the fashion runways of Milan, Paris, London and New York. This week showcases the newest items and trends in the jewelry world and we had the opportunity to spend these days with the QVC buying teams. Together we combed through shows, and vendor after vendor, in their search for amazing styles and the most current trends for you, the QVC customer. Here are 3 of the most important jewelry trends that we saw at the shows, illustrated with some of the gorgeous pieces that you’ll be seeing during Gem Day. I know this may be a longer posting than normal but there are so many exciting things to tell you about. I hope you’ll bear with me:

Statement Pieces:

Jewelry with “presence” and “drama” is one of the hottest categories in the industry. This trend showcases items that are larger in size and more important, as well as pieces with unusual mixes of gemstones, colors and shapes.

One of the most important statement pieces that women love is a statement earring that works with everything. The Affinity Diamond ½ cttw. halo stud earrings (J269506) make a major ear statement measuring ¼” in diameter!

The reason, is the composite/cluster style of diamond setting giving the look of a much larger diamond solitaire. The impressive cluster is framed in an outer “halo” of sparkling diamonds and they come in your choice of white or yellow 14K gold.

For women who love the look of a statement necklace, you’ll love the Organic sterling 18” Labradorite and Amazonite cluster necklace that combines beads with freeform and fancy cut bezel-set gems (J271708). It’s an important look and the colors give it versatility, as does the 2” extender that allows you to wear it at different lengths.

Intense Color:

Color has been a major focus of fashion over the past number of seasons. Jewelry designers are answering the color craze with a rainbow of nature’s gemstone colors, as well as intense colors created with gold and contemporary materials like ceramic.

Intensity of color is heightened when gemstones and metals of similar colors are combined into one piece. Such is the case with (J271461), a ring that combines new Chocolate Moonstone with accents of Smoky Quartz framed in a setting of 14K rose gold plating. The north/south orientation of the ring is very flattering to the hand while the rich rose, brown and chocolate tones are flattering to every skin-tone.

If you’re a woman who loves more neutral shades, you won’t want to miss out on the first-ever chrome ceramic watch at QVC (J267528).

The chrome ceramic, a hot new designer color, is accented with silver-tones and stainless steel, while the rotating bezel and the watch face (at the 12, 3, 6 and 9) contain ½ cttw of larger-sized round diamonds.  It comes in small, average or large sizes to ensure proper fit.

Classics Refined:

The return to classic dressing styles has resulted in a refined and refocused approach to the jewelry classics, pieces that have stood the test of time and still capture a fresh look for today.

The diamond solitaire ring will always be a sought-after classic, but unfortunately not always within reach to many. Fortunately, for those who seek that look, the Affinity Diamond ½ cttw Halo Design Ring (J269505) may be able to solve that quest.

Set into your choice of white or yellow 14K gold this composite/cluster styling give you the look of a much larger solitaire, without the unattainable price of one.  The main cluster is then accented by a surrounding diamond-set halo that adds importance to the size.

What could be more classic than the coveted platinum and diamond anniversary ring? Well, for the first time in 10 years, QVC will showcase a gorgeous ½ cttw style (J269392) set into the purest, rarest and most precious of jewelry metals, 950 platinum! Platinum’s natural whiteness not only keeps diamonds sparkling and white, but its durability will hold the gemstones more securely.

So as you can see, Gem Day promises to highlight a spectacular selection of the most important trends seen at Jewelry Week. Above are only a few! You’ll definitely want to tune in all day for items such as the Gemstone Teardrop earrings set into 18K gold-plated textured bezel settings (J268336).They’ll be available in many of your favorite gemstones like Tigers Eye, Red Carnelian, Green Agate and Blue or Pink Chalcedony.

A favorite of mine on the day will be (J269142) the Affinity Diamond ¾ cttw Tri-Color Highway ring in 14K sculpted yellow, white and rose gold. The perfect ring no matter what your metal color preference is – it goes with everything.
