Celebrate Spring at the Smithsonian!

I am so thrilled when I sit to write my blog when the subject is the Smithsonian! On April 19th at 7pm EST we will celebrate spring with two hours of glorious designs inspired by the pieces at the Gem Gallery in the National Museum of Natural History.  If you have visited Washington DC in the spring you may have been lucky enough the witness the cherry blossoms in full bloom.  Don't worry if you missed it, because on April 19 we also celebrate the 100th anniversary of the planting of the cherry trees around the tidal basin.  We sent our producer John with  a crew to Washington to capture the trees in full bloom this year on a spectacular sunny day. Wait till you see the footage we will run during the show!  Expert (and dear friend!) Christine Webb will be joining us with her fascinating stories.  Curator of the National Gem Gallery Dr. Jeffry Post will also be seen on tape talking about some of the pieces, as well as stunning shots of the Haupt Garden at the Smithsonian.

Highlights of the collection include two pieces designed by Judith Ripka, a ring and a pair of earrings inspired by the cherry blossoms.  We are so lucky that Judith will be joining us during the show! She and I spent time together behind the scenes at the Gem gallery and it is a day I will always remember. There are lovely amethyst earrings and a ring modeled after the Louis Comfort Tiffany necklace in the collection.  Spring also means an explosion of color, so we'll see a multi-colored dangle earrings, and rainbow lovers will adore the new diamond ring in fabulous colors representing the arc of a rainbow.

Get ready to be dazzled with us on April 19th!
