Countdown to St. Patrick’s Day: Killarney Crystal’s Preparations and Tips on How to Be Irish

Well, the preparations for St. Patrick’s Day are well underway in the Claffey household. The kids are full of the excitement of the season. The renditions of the history of St. Patrick are nothing short of hilarious – what they lack in factual information, they more than make up for in passion. Once schoolwork is out of the way, they are ready to get creative. The requests for green and gold coloured ribbons, coloured cards, pipe cleaners (green, of course) and double sided tape are almost constant. I cannot wait to see the wonderful creations that will decorate our home for the next couple of weeks. I will share some photos with you when the creations are completed.

The St. Patrick’s Day celebrations continue for longer than the norm in the Claffey family (even by Irish standards!!). My father-in-law, Cyril, celebrates his birthday on the 18th of March, and my brother celebrates his on the 19th of March. We will be all partied out, I’m sure. Last year, Cyril celebrated his 80th birthday, and we all enjoyed a wonderful birthday lunch with him, his wife Dolores, and all the family and extended family. One of the highlights of the lunch was the birthday cake that was fashioned to resemble the old family homestead where the Killarney Crystal story began! What do you think? Does it look the part?
