I’ll take that as a compliment!  I love this amazing country of ours, and look forward to celebrating all that is wonderful about America each July 4th!   As a matter of fact, this is one of the many things Bill and I have in common.  That’s why we chose to be married over the Fourth of July weekend.   Bill also likes the fact that this way he never forgets our anniversary!  Maybe if I keep doing my P90X work-outs I’ll be able to get back into this wedding dress for my 18th Anniversary!

What began as a wonderful celebration with our family at the famous and fabulous Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan 17 years ago has become a wonderful annual tradition.  Each Fourth of July we celebrate around the pool with family and friends, complete with live music and a rousing game of water volleyball.  This happens once we all return down the Turquoise Trail from quirky Madrid, an old coal mining town and current artist community.  We join in the community parade in our 1961 turquoise Lincoln convertible loaded up with candy and red white and blue beach balls to toss to the kids who line the street.

It’s no wonder I love a parade. I come from Minnesota, the Land of 10,000 Lakes and countless parades!  From the “Bend of the River Days” parade to the “Corn on the Curb Days” parade, and the world famous “Aquatennial” parade, not a summer weekend went by that we weren’t entertained by marching bands, floats and clowns. Our parades weren’t confined to the streets, each Fourth of July my highly competitive family participated in the boat parade on Lake Washington.   Since this happened early in the morning, our family would gather at my mom’s the day before, working well into the night after weeks of planning and gathering up of our supplies.  Though we reminded ourselves it wasn’t all about winning the “Best Decorated Boat” prize, our standing in the competition definitely set the tone for our family picnic to follow!

I would love to hear about your favorite July 4th traditions. I’ll bet our Sincerely Sisters have some special stories to share!!

I hope you all of a wonderful Fourth of July!

God Bless America!

Sincerely,

Carolyn
