Bringing Fall Scents Indoors

by on ‎11-07-2014 04:27 PM

As much as we all might lament the end of summer, fall does have its own wonderful aspects – cool breezes, bright red, yellow and burnt orange leaves, and the crisp smell in the air…in fact,  the more I think about it, I might just like the fall as much as I do the summer.  The aromas of autumn just make me want to get cozy in front of a fire, cook, bake and surround myself with friends and family.  I savor this time of year and the magnificent scents that I enjoy outdoors; I like to also bring into my home.

A large bowl of apples brings color, flavor and scents that pretty much sum up the season.  Apples remind me of the apple tree I grew up with in my backyard.  I am an expert of everything apple - pies, tarts, breads, applesauce, cider, cakes…

The earthy aromas of cinnamon and nutmeg have always reminded me of my Grandmother baking at Thanksgiving.

Another scent I associate with this time of year is orange and it’s no wonder that this is one of the most popular of aromatherapy scents found in candles, lotions and soaps.

Here are a few simple ways I enjoy these earthy aromas in my home:

-Simmer orange peels and cinnamon in water on your stovetop.  Your home will be filled with a soothing autumnal fragrance.

-Create your own Pomander Balls with fresh oranges and cloves.  Place them in a bowl to enjoy for months.

-Take an essential oil (apple, orange, lemon, or cinnamon) and place a few drops in your shower.   Begin your day with an aromatherapy treatment!

It’s Autumn inside and out!
