A belated Happy Mother's Day to all !! We had a lovely weekend here in eastern PA for Mother's Day this year, and as I wandered about my garden (mainly pulling any sneaky weeds who dared to appear after the rainstorm the day before), I noticed how many roses are already blooming!!   Our Today's Special Value Bernini Rechargeable Fountain was SUPER popular in my Garden Party Show this morning and is still available in case you missed it! In fact, I just placed my order for the Bronze color choice. Like many of you, I love my solar fountains but have wished for one that could run on a shady day, at night, or even indoors in the foyer or sunroom, but did not want to go to the trouble and expense of having an electrician and a plumber out to the house to install it. Today's TSV is the answer! It is absolutely beautiful, full of curb appeal and is battery operated, W... Continue Reading

When you look at my bedside table, all you’ll likely see is a stack of home decorating and improvement magazines. When I turn on the television, I can easily get sucked into watching episode after episode of those real estate reality shows. For example: a couple is moving to Germany…which house will they choose? Weeds in the garden are a pain in the "you know what" and one of the most aggravating things to a gardener. I don't know about you, but I've seen weeds sprouting up in my plant bed areas for the past few weeks, LONG before the tulips and daffodils. I call them "garden invaders" and I sometimes actually yell at them to "get out!"...just before I dig them out, of course! I wish some of my plants and flowers were as hardy as some of those weeds! Not many things are more joyous or beautiful than butterflies! By planting a butterfly garden with the plants and flowers they prefer to feed and lay eggs on, you'll surely have a yard full of butterflies throughout the warm-weather season! Butterfly gardens can be any size...a window box, a special corner of your yard, or a wildflower garden that's mostly untended and left to do what it likes. The plants you choose will depend on where you live. It's worth it to do some research to learn which kinds of butterflies are native to your area and which plants and flowers attract them. Lots of people have been emailing me about how to get rid of Japanese beetles, so I thought I'd share what works for me. First and foremost, know thy enemy! Here's what you need to know:  1) They don't fly into your yard from a faraway land in June or July. Adult beetles emerge from the ground in June or July depending on where you live. Here in Eastern PA, they show up around the 4th of July. They begin to feed as soon as they pop out of your soil.  2) How did they get there? Well, during the summer months when you're battling to keep them off of your roses and other plants, they'... Continue Reading
