Prepare Your Body Before You Exercise

There are so many causes of stress in our bodies. While sometimes this stress is emotionally based, more often it's physical, emerging from a bad diet and lack of gentle movement. This idea led me to deeply examine gentle forms of exercise like AeroPilates and yoga.

As a post-menopausal woman who perpetually lives on a plane flying between time zones, I've personally experienced high levels of stress. The most important changes I've made in the past couple of years include supporting my body with nutrition before my daily AeroPilates exercise session, meditating every day for 30 minutes, getting eight hours of sleep every night, drinking more mineral water, and increasing my fish oils, magnesium, calcium, and vitamin D intake.

Below are tips that have worked for me. But check with your doctor before trying any of the following:

  • Before I work out, I drink a shake made with berries, assorted seeds like hemp and chia, nuts like almonds and walnuts, a mixture of greens, and almond milk. (See my recipe below for precise measurements.) It feeds my body during the workout, tides me over till early afternoon, and I don't feel full or sluggish.

  • My morning meditation is a chakra threading. It's calming, yet uplifting.

  • Before bed, I take magnesium, calcium, and vitamin D.

  • Throughout the day I drink mineral water.

My Shake Recipe

I
ngredients:
3 walnuts
2 Brazil nuts, soaked overnight
1 Tbsp coconut oil
2 Tbsp almond butter
1 Tbsp flax seeds
1 Tbsp chia seeds
1 Tbsp hemp seeds
4 oz blueberries, frozen
1 cup almond milk

Directions:
Blend it all in your blender and drink. (I like to use my Vitamix.) Then go enjoy a well-supported workout!
