My best girlfriend Timi and I met when I was 12. Her younger brother and I had a crush on each other, and being the older sister, she had to meet this girl on the school bus who her brother liked. Well the crush didn’t last, but my friendship with his older sister Timi did. For 35 years we’ve been best friends, but we’ve never taken a vacation together… until now. Seven days on a Caribbean cruise. It was a rare affair of adventure, eating, and togetherness.
We kicked things off with ice cream on the Lido deck.
And we took in one adventure after another at the individual ports. I climbed a floating iceberg in Grand Turk. Timi and I watched several people climb it, and then get to the top and kind of freeze. I thought, it can’t be that scary. So, I climbed it, and um… from the top it’s higher than it looks from afar. I jumped anyway
We went zip lining in Puerto Rico. We went, up, up, and up into the beautiful forest and took eight zip lines and one vertical drop on the trip down. The zip lines were deliciously fun, but the vertical drop is the one we kept talking about on the ride home (it made our hearts plummet).
We chose a horseback riding adventure in the Bahamas. We walked a trail, walked along the beach, and ended with a run in the water, which was my favorite part! See my cute Skechers Go Walk shoes???
We took the “city” bus in St. Thomas to the lovely (and off-the-excursion-page) Coki beach. Once there we went snorkeling and ate a Caribbean lunch.
On the ship we tried our hand and bingo, again and again, and lost, again and again… lol.
We joined others on the cruise for the “On Deck for a Cause” 5k walk. The walk raises money for six international cancer organizations. 9 times around the promenade deck in my Rykas did the trick
We ate. And ate. And ate. I wore my Joan Rivers dress for the first of two of our fancy “dress up” dinners.
Dress up nights, just make everything better
We had to get in some R and R after all of that eating, so we lounged on the deck. My Vera Bradley tote was perfect for all of my relaxation essentials… lol
I wore my fitbit every day. When we weren’t relaxing we were walking around the big beautiful ship. Amazingly we hit 10k steps almost every day!!! This is totally random, but it tickled me big time, they change the carpets in the elevators each day (to remind you of the passing of time???).
Timi and I loved these stairs onboard, so we just had to get a shot.
Here’s to the weather, which cooperated for the most part, and to a friendship that stands the test of time.
This adventure, was a once in a lifetime excursion, and I took most of these awesome photos on this Olympus camera, and it shows… see the sand grains?
I would love to see a great photo of you and your best friend doing something you love…
