Positive Thinking About Mind Health

by on ‎11-16-2010 01:41 PM

I’ve been thinking a lot about the health of the mind. My grandfather passed last summer in his 90s, and his mind was sharp and fully engaged when he made his peaceful transition. He loved to share conversation. He loved to be alive and be a part of the world. His way of living and being was a positive model for me, and it taught me how to express life and be alive. I love to research mind health and learn what makes for healthy aging of our minds. It’s truly a blessing to have your wits and wellness about you.

I bet you’re like me and you’re not about to sit back and watch your mind age poorly. You’re probably doing things daily to help your mind thrive for a long time to come. Your lifestyle is shown to influence nearly 70% of how your brain ages. Your diet, exercise, activities, and social ties are very powerful determinants in the health and well-being of your mind. Eating a diet that’s rich in colorful fruits and vegetables, making whole grains a daily part of your program, and integrating the healthy omega-3 fats through fish, nuts, and seeds are important pieces to overall mind health. Become a lover of vigorous movement — dance, play, run, jump. Freeze tag is good. Laughing while you play is even better. Exercise is an elixir for your mind.

If you need a little encouragement to put your health on the top of your to-do list, then simply look around your life. Who and what do you love? What makes you cry with joy, laugh with your belly, and makes you feel the most alive? I trust these questions will give you all the motivation you need. Enjoy the adventure of loving yourself! May your day and life be blessed.

Peace and positivity,

James
