Brighten Your Dining Room with Fabric on Canvas

Hello, friends! I’ve had a busy day on-air, but I loved talking about all the amazing silver we have from UltraFine® right now. Don’t you just adore those pieces? I was also so happy to bring you a brand new epside of You’re Home with Jill last weekI hope you liked it!

Now that I’ve got some free time, I wanted to pick back up where we left off with canvas DIY projects! This is a great time to take simple steps to reinvigorate your home décor—the holidays are over so your festive decorations are put away, which can sometimes leave your rooms looking a little plain. Plus, it’s cold outside and you’re spending more time indoors, so why not do a few little things to brighten up your rooms.

I find that the dining room is often the hardest room to decorate. It’s not typically a room that’s filled with a lot of color or texture. You have your large wood table and chair, maybe a few side furniture pieces that are also wood, and probably a rug. It’s not like the bedroom or the living room where you can add pops of color with some new throw pillows or blankets. That’s why I love this Fabric on Canvas DIY project for the dining room.  Fabric-covered canvases add such nice texture to the room, and you can customize them to either match the wall color or to contrast it. If you don’t have any paint on your dining room walls, feel free to go bold with your fabric choices! Have fun with bright colors or decorative patterns, and the best part is—you can change the fabrics as home décor trends come and go or your personal tastes change.

For my fabric-covered canvases, I chose two colors I love, orange and blue. I mixed plain fabrics with patterned to make the arrangement more visually interesting, and made sure the plain fabric had a little texture to make it a bit more elegant.  I think six square canvases work well, but feel free to change the number or shape of the boards for what works in your dining room. Once you decide on the quantity, you’re ready to get started.

You’ll Need:

Canvas boards

Scissors

Fabric, cut 3” larger than the perimeter of your boards

Staple gun

To Assemble:

1.       Lay your fabric on a work surface, pattern-side down, and place the canvas on top, front-side down.

2.       Grab one edge of the fabric and pull it to the wooden edge of the canvas board, making sure it’s tight but not too taught. Staple it a few times to secure.

3.       Repeat with the remaining sides of the fabric.

4.       Fold in the excess fabric at the corners, and staple to the wood.

5.       Attach a wall hanger to the back of each canvas and arrange on your walls.

There you go! Another totally customizable, inexpensive, and fun DIY project to enhance your walls.

Now I’m off to relax at homecan’t wait to kick my shoes off and enjoy some quality family time. I hope you’re all doing the same!

From my home to yours,

Jill
